Player of the Week
Nick Piazza, Queens
Senior | Shortstop | Queens, N.Y.
Senior shortstop Nick Piazza delivered a scorching weekend at the plate, batting .778 with a 1.818 OPS and a perfect 1.000 slugging percentage. He went 7-for-9 overall, adding one triple, two walks, and four runs scored. Piazza recorded three multi-hit performances, highlighted by consecutive 5-for-5 efforts against SNHU and Adelphi. In the win over Adelphi, the Queens native went 3-for-3 with a run scored.
Pitcher of the Week
Samuel Gil, Mercy
Senior | Bronx, N.Y.
Gil pitched 4.1 scoreless innings of relief across three appearances with two saves, three strikeouts and just one hit allowed. The senior opened the week with 2.0 scoreless innings of relief at UNC Pembroke with two strikeouts. The pitcher recorded the final out to earn the save in Mercy's 6-5 win over Post on Friday. Gil ended the week with 2.0 scoreless innings of relief with one strikeout to earn the save in Mercy's 13-11 win over RV Bentley on Sunday.
Rookie of the Week
John Harkins, Queens
Freshman | Center Fielder | Babylon, N.Y.
Rookie center fielder John Harkins enjoyed an outstanding debut weekend for the Knights, batting .500 with a 1.071 OPS and a .500 slugging percentage. He totaled six hits, three RBI, three runs scored, one walk, and two stolen bases. In his collegiate debut against SNHU, Harkins went 4-for-6 at the plate with two runs scored and one RBI. In the victory over Adelphi, the rookie finished 1-for-3 with a walk, two RBI, one run scored, and one stolen base.
ECC Weekly Honor Roll
Blaise Kolbert, D'Youville
Senior | Infield | Lancaster, N.Y.
To start his senior campaign, Kolbert hit .462 at the plate where he collected six hits, including three extra-base hits, while driving in three runs. In the team's 5-4 win over Wilmington University on Saturday, Kolbert broke open a 1-1 tie game with a home run to right field, driving in a pair of runs. Later that same game, Kolbert went to the mound and pitched ? innings and got the save.
Billy Morris, D'Youville
Senior | Pitcher | Lancaster, N.Y.
Morris picked up where he left off a season ago, earning the season-opening win for the Saints where he struck out six and allowed one earned run in seven innings of action. With the win, Morris is now holds the record in career wins while on the bump. In the same game, Morris went yard while also drawing two walks. For the weekend at the plate, Morris collected four hit, two extra-base hits, had five runs while also driving in five runs.
Anthony Altobelli, Mercy
Sophomore | Infielder | Kings Park, N.Y.
Altobelli hit .556 (5-for-9) with three RBI, a home run, two runs and one double as Mercy went 2-2 on the week. The sophomore opened the week going 1-for-3 with two RBI and a double in game two against Post on Friday. Altobelli ended the week going 4-for-6 with two runs, his first collegiate home run and one RBI in Mercy's win over RV Bentley on Sunday.
Geneo Savoca, Mercy
Sophomore | Infielder/Pitcher | Albany, N.Y.
Savoca went 1-0 on the mound, pitching 4.0 innings of relief with two earned runs allowed and four strikeouts to earn the win in Mercy's 13-11 win over RV Bentley on Sunday. The sophomore also went 2-for-8 at the plate with two runs and one stolen base. Savoca went 1-for-3 with a run at UNC Pembroke on Tuesday and went 1-for-4 with a run and a stolen base in the win over Post on Friday.
James Sill, Molloy
Junior | Pitcher | Levittown, N.Y.
Sill picked up his first win of the season on Saturday against Bridgeport. The junior tossed six innings allowing two unearned runs and striking out eight in Molloy's 10-2 triumph.
Sean Welsh, Molloy
Senior | First Base | East Meadow, N.Y.
Welsh continued his hot start to the campaign in Myrtle Beach this weekend. The senior hit his third home run of the season on Friday as part of a three-hit day while driving in two and scoring twice. Welsh ended the week driving in a pair of runs against Franklin Pierce. On the week, Welsh hit .500 (5-of-10), drove in four, stole two bases, and blasted one home run while getting on base at a .583 clip.
Robert Nunez, Queens
Senior | Pitcher | Manhattan, N.Y.
Senior left-hander Robert Nunez delivered a strong performance in his first start of the season, leading the Knights to their first victory of the year. Nunez surrendered just two hits and two unearned runs across five innings, adding two walks and one strikeout in the 8-2 win over Adelphi.
Michael Zeis, St. Thomas Aquinas
Senior | Catcher | Greenlawn, N.Y.
Zeis had seven hits in 11 at-bats for a .636 average, along with three home runs, six RBI and eight run scored in STAC's season-opening Myrtle Beach trip, facing Bentley and Chestnut Hill.
Michael Flashner, Staten Island
Sophomore | Shortstop | Staten Island, N.Y.
In opening weekend in Myrtle Beach, the sophomore led the team through three games of play with a .417 batting average (5-12) and tied for first on the team with four RBI. He posted an on base percentage of .917.
Aiden Kielty, Staten Island
Senior | Pitcher | Staten Island, N.Y.
The senior started the season on the mound for the Dolphins in game one of three in the weekend in Myrtle Beach. After pitching 5.0 innings against Southern Connecticut State, the senior recorded his first win of the year with five strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA.
