ECC Baseball Report - Week Five

Co-Players of the Week

Kolongi Goins, Mercy
Junior | OF | Poughkeepsie, NY

Goins hit a blistering .733 (11-for-15) with a team-high eight runs to go with three RBI and a .778 on base percentage in five games this week. The junior opened the week going 1-for-1 at Pace on Tuesday before going 3-for-3 with four runs against STAC on Friday. The outfielder went 4-for-7 with three runs and an RBI in the Mavericks' doubleheader split at STAC on Saturday. Goins ended the week going 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run in the win over STAC on Sunday. 

Billy Morris, D’Youville
Junior | INF/RHP | Lancaster, NY

Morris did it all for the Saints this week, getting a win on the mound and going 5-for-19 with two home runs and eight RBI at the plate. In Game 1 of DYU’s doubleheader on Thursday, Morris threw a complete game, striking out a season-high seven batters while allowing just one earned run on four hits to get the win. In Game 2 of the doubleheader, Morris went 3-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI. In Game 1 of their doubleheader on Friday, he went 1-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored.


Pitcher of the Week

James Sill, Molloy
Sophomore | 1B/P | Levittown, NY

Sill picked up a victory against Staten Island on Saturday (Mar. 22). The right-hander tossed eight shut out innings while striking out nine to improve to 4-0 on the campaign.


Rookie of the Week

Jack Kehoe, Staten Island
Freshman | OF | Staten Island, NY

Kehoe hit .357 (10-for-28) in five games this week and did not allow a run in 4.0 innings pitched across two relief appearances. In Wednesday's 21-run outburst for the Dolphins, the CSI freshman went 4-for-7 at the plate with four runs scored and three RBI. On the mound, he also contributed a scoreless inning of relief. Kehoe then hit safely in three of four games against Molloy this weekend and earned the win in Thursday's CSI victory over the Lions with 3.0 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Jakob Denall, D’Youville
Freshman | RHP | Clarence, NY

Denall turned in the best performance of his career thus far on Friday against Holy Family. In six innings pitched, he struck out a career-high eight batters while allowing just four earned runs on one walk and eight hits.

Matt Filip, Queens
Senior | 1B | Maspeth, NY

Filip led the way with a team-high seven hits, three doubles, five RBI, and four runs scored as he batted .368 with a SLG % of .526 and an OB % of .368 and two multi-hit games including his second four-hit performance of the year. In the Knights' 11-7 victory over nationally-ranked #11 East Stroudsburg Tuesday afternoon Filip went 2-5 AB with two RBI, one double, and one run scored. In the Sunday afternoon DH split against Felician the senior tallied five hits, two doubles, three RBI, and three runs scored. With his fourth hit in the nightcap, Filip tied the RBI program record as he laced a two-RBI single out to left field to record his fourth hit of the game and notch the 128 and 129 RBI of his career, the latter which tied the program record.

Rob Jacobsen, Queens
Senior | 2B | Temecula, CA

Jacobsen recorded a blistering batting average of .600, SLG % of 1.000, and OB % of .706 as he totaled six hits, two doubles, one triple, four RBI, four runs scored, five walks, and one hit by pitch to total 10 bases in four games. The senior totaled a hit in all four games including two multi-hit games in Sunday’s DH against Felician University. In an 11-7 victory over nationally-ranked #11 East Stroudsburg Tuesday afternoon, Jacobsen went 1-2 at the plate, with a triple, one RBI, one run scored, and three walks. In the Knights’ 16-2 victory over Felician, the second baseman went 2-2 AB with two RBI, one double, two runs scored and one walk to earn a DH split. 

Peyton Jemison, Mercy
Sophomore | 3B | Monroe, NY

Jemison hit .412 (7-for-17) with six RBI, four runs, two doubles and two triples in four games. The sophomore went 3-for-5 with a game-high and career-high five RBI with three runs, a double and a triple against STAC on Friday. The third baseman then went 1-for-4 in Mercy's game two win over STAC on Saturday. Jemison ended the week going 3-for-5 with an RBI, a run and a triple in the win over STAC on Sunday. 

Andre Jenkins, Mercy
Freshman | P | Chester, NY

Jenkins pitched seven innings with one earned run and four hits allowed to go along with four strikeouts to earn the win in Mercy's win over STAC on Sunday. 

Patrick Sanchez, Molloy
Senior | SS | Merrick, NY

Protecting the cleanup hitter in the five spot, Sanchez put together four multi-hit games in Molloy's three-win week. The senior hit .476 (10-for-21) scored six runs, drove in five RBI, stole four bases, and totaled two doubles. In Molloy's first game against Staten Island on Thursday (Mar. 20), Sanchez collected three hits, two RBI, two runs scored, and one stolen base. As part of the Lions doubleheader sweep on Saturday (Mar. 22), the senior recorded another three hit game, driving in two runs, crossing the plate twice and stole three bases in game one and ended the day going two-for-three in game two. Sanchez ended the week tallying two hits, one run, one RBI, and one double on Sunday.

Andrew Schoelles, St. Thomas Aquinas
Sophomore | RHP | Bayside, NY

Schoelles went the distance for STAC, pitching to a complete game victory over Mercy in game one Saturday's home opener. The sophomore right-hander allowed five runs (four earned) on ten hits, while issuing no walks and striking out six to pick up his first win of the campaign.

Jonathan Simpson, D’Youville
Junior | 1B/OF | Grand Island, NY

In five games for D'Youville this week, Simpson went 7-for-18 with a home run, three doubles, four RBI, and five runs scored. On Tuesday against Gannon, he went 3-for-5 with two doubles. In Game 1 of their doubleheader against Holy Family on Friday, he went 1-for-3 with two RBI and in game two he went 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBI.

Mike Vilardi, Queens
Sophomore | UTL | Massapequa, NY

Sophomore Mike Vilardi put together a stellar week recording two multi-hit games as he combined for five hits, two doubles, two walks, and a team-high six runs scored to go with a complete game pitching outing for his first win of the year. In the Sunday DH split against Felician the Massapequa native went 5-8 AB with two doubles, two walks, and four runs scored. Taking the mound in game three of the series, the sophomore went the distance as he pitched his career complete victory in 7.0 innings allowing seven hits, two earned runs, one walk, and four strikeouts, while also tacking in his eighth multi-hit game of the year in a 16-2 victory. 

Sean Welsh, Molloy
Junior | 3B | East Meadow, NY

Welsh flourished in the lead off spot of the lineup for the Lions. The junior put together three multi-hit, multi-run, and multi-RBI games out of five contests on the week. Welsh went 2-for-4 Thursday (Mar. 20) hit a homer, scored two runs, and drove in two runs. In Saturday's doubleheader sweep, Welsh connected for another homer in game one as part of a three-hit day where he scored twice and drove in two runs. The junior totaled another two hits and scored twice in game two, before adding another two runs and two RBIs in Sunday's (Mar. 23) series finale against the Dolphins. In all, Welsh hit .400 (8-for-20) scored seven runs, drove in six, belted two home runs, and stole one base.
