BUFFALO, N.Y. – D'Youville University men's lacrosse player, Obrigh Tallchief, has been selected to the Haudenosaunee National Team Sixes Roster for the upcoming Atlas Cup down at the US Lacrosse Facility in Sparks, Md.

"I have had a lacrosse stick in my hands since I was three years old," Tallchief said. "We grew up playing lacrosse in the backyard with friends and family from when we could start walking. To be picked to play and represent my family, community, and the institution for the Haudenosaunee Nationals is a dream come true."

Tallchief was a key member of the Saints this past year, helping the team to their highest win total in program history. Tallchief ranked second in the team in points (50) and assists (19) while leading the team in goals (31). Tallchief was also apart of an offense that set the single game team record in points (43), goals (27), assists (16), groundballs (58), and caused turnovers (22), all coming against Davis and Elkins this past February.

"I am so incredibly happy and proud of Obrigh for being named to the Haudenosaunee Sixes Roster," said Saints men's lacrosse head coach, Jack Wilson. "He is an incredible young man and player who can play both offense and defense at a high level, which is rare to find in today's game of lacrosse. The Sixes format of lacrosse is perfect for his skill set and I am hopeful that he is able to represent the Haudenosaunee at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. For Obrigh to represent both himself and our program, on this stage and against the competition he will see at the Atlas Cup, is special. We know he will represent himself, his family, and D'Youville with pride."

The Atlas Cup, along with the Super Sixes, are a few events on the road to the Olympic Games in 2028 held in Los Angeles, California. These events are apart of the process of selecting the team for the Olympic Games.

Though Tallchief is playing for many reasons, one reason hits close to him. Tallchief will be playing in honor of his dear friend, Noah Snyder. Snyder, a Western New York native and member of the Haudenosaunee National team and Marquette University men's lacrosse team, tragically passed away in a car accident a few short weeks ago. With Snyder's passing weighing on his heart and mind, he will channel that into his play this weekend.

"In our culture, we say that we play for the medicine game for those who can't," said Tallchief. "I plan to play my heart out and leave it all on the field. I hope to make my family, community, and Saints' teammates proud. Most importantly, I will be playing in honor of my dear friend, Noah. I know he will be with us in spirit… If we can embody just a fraction of his finesse, passion, and love for the game, we will be just fine."

The Atlas cup begins this evening as Tallchief and the Haudenosaunee National Team will face Canada at 5:30 p.m. The team will then face Puerto Rico tomorrow at 4 p.m. and USA on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
