DOBBS FERRY, NY – Mercy University men's lacrosse graduate student Jimmy Osorio (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Newberry College), senior Owen Stephenson (Glen Rock, N.J./UDC) and sophomore Jake Norton (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) have been named USA Lacrosse Magazine Division II All-American Honorable Mention.
Osorio is named All-American following his first season as a Maverick. The ECC Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-ECC honoree topped the conference in both goals per game (3.57, third nationally) and points per game (4.50, 18th nationally), Osorio put up 63 points on 50 goals and 13 assists this spring. In ECC play, the Mercy graduate student attackman topped the conference in total goals (25) and points (29), posting multi-goal efforts in all six games, including six against Roberts Wesleyan, five against District of Columbia and Frostburg State, four against St. Thomas Aquinas, three against Molloy, and two against D'Youville. All four of his helpers on the season also came across those six conference games.
Stephenson receives All-American honors for the first time after being named ECC Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-ECC. With 55 ground balls and 31 caused turnovers across 14 games, Stephenson anchored a Mercy defense that allowed just 9.29 goals per game, which ranked Top 20 nationally. The senior close defenseman averaged 2.38 caused turnovers per game, which sat second in the conference and seventh nationally, and 4.23 ground balls per game, which finished sixth overall in the ECC but first among all non-face-off specialists. 30 of his 50 ground balls and 17 of his 26 caused turnovers came against ECC competition, including 7GB, 5CT against St. Thomas Aquinas, 7GB, 4CT against District of Columbia, 6GB, 2CT (plus a goal!) vs. Roberts Wesleyan, 5GB, 3CT vs Frostburg State, and 4GB, 3CT vs. Molloy.
Norton takes home All-American honors for the first time in his career. The First Team All-ECC recipient had six assists, 35 ground balls and six caused turnovers in 12 games. Norton had a season-high two assists against Bentley on February 23rd and had a season-high seven ground balls and two caused turnovers in the win over Franklin Pierce on February 15th.
