ECC Baseball Report - Week 11

Player of the Week

Billy Morris, D’Youville
Junior | INF/RHP | Lancaster, NY

Morris stepped up for D'Youville on both sides of the ball this weekend. At the plate, he went 8-for-15 (.533) with two home runs, a double, a walk, six runs scored, and ten RBI, recording a hit in all four games and ending the season on a 14-game hitting streak. In DYU’s 15-2 win against Staten Island on Friday, he went 3-for-3 with a three-run homer, a double, a sac fly, and four RBI. In game one of DYU’s doubleheader on Saturday, he went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI and pitched two scoreless innings while allowing just one hit. The home run was his 181st career hit, setting the all-time program record. In the second game of the doubleheader, he struck out five while allowing just two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks in five innings to get the winning decision and also went 2-for-4 with two RBI.


Pitcher of the Week

Penn Sealey, Queens
Graduate Student | 3B | Raleigh, NC

In the ECC postseason-clinching game three 5-0 victory over STAC, Sealey pitched five shutout innings in his third start as he limited the Spartans to two hits and one walk and struck out a season-best five batters. Facing 17 batters, Sealey held the Spartans to a batting average of .125 and worked three clean innings on the mound to earn his first victory of the year.


Rookie of the Week

Matthew Hesselbirg, Mercy
Freshman | 3B | Port Jefferson Station, NY

Hesselbirg hit .300 (3-for-10) with three RBI and one double as Mercy went 1-1 on the week. The freshman went 3-for-6 with three RBI and one double in the win at New Haven on Wednesday. 


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Alec Boucher, D’Youville
Senior | INF | Essex, Ontario

Boucher closed out his college career on a high note, going 8-for-16 (.500) with three doubles, two triples, one walk, six runs scored, and five RBI, collecting a hit in all four games. In their 15-2 win versus Staten Island on Friday, he went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. In their 21-10 victory on Saturday, he went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, three runs scored, and two RBI.

Kyle DeCresce, St. Thomas Aquinas
Junior | INF | Burnt Hills, NY

DeCresce homered twice and drove in four runs on the week. The junior infielder batted .438 (7-for-16) and scored four runs in the Spartans four-game series with Queens College.

Ryan Hynes, Molloy
Graduate Student | P | Stony Brook, NY

Hynes picked up the victory Friday against Adelphi to move to 5-0 on the season. The graduate student pitched six innings, allowed one unearned run, and whiffed six while scattering four hits. 

Peyton Jemison, Mercy
Sophomore | 3B | Monroe, NY

Jemison hit a team-high .750 (6-for-8) with four runs, three doubles and two RBI as Mercy went 1-1 on the week. The sophomore set a single-season school record in doubles (19) and hits (76). The third baseman opened the week going 1-for-3 against Adelphi on Tuesday before going 5-for-5 with four runs, two RBI and three doubles in the win at New Haven on Wednesday. 

JC Kiss, Molloy
Senior | P | Hicksville, NY

Kiss picked up his fifth win on the campaign in Saturday's 6-0 victory over Adelphi. The left-hander tossed six innings of shut out baseball allowing five hits and striking out three.

Aidan Larkin, Molloy
Graduate Student | 2B | Huntington, NY

Larkin hit .438 (7-for-16) in a 3-1 week for the Lions. The graduate student picked up hits in all four games, including a three-hit performance at Dominican. The infielder drove in a pair of runs in Friday's, 12-6, victory over Adelphi and notched two hits, one RBI, and one run scored in the Lions 6-2 triumph Saturday afternoon against the Panthers.

Ryan McCarthy, D’Youville
Redshirt Sophomore | RHP | Hamburg, NY

McCarthy posted a quality start for the Saints on Saturday, striking out a season-high four and walking none while allowing just two runs on seven hits in six innings of work against Staten Island.

Peter Nenadich III, Queens
Sophomore | RHP | Bayside, NY

Pitching in relief, Nenadich III put the Knights on course to their sixth straight postseason appearance in the 8-3 comeback victory over STAC. Nenadich III recorded 2.2 innings of work as he held the Spartans hitless and struck out four batters as Queens rallied to earn his third ECC victory of the year. 

Penn Sealey, Queens
Graduate Student | 3B | Raleigh, NC

Sealey led the way in helping the Knights clinch the final ECC postseason spot as he recorded a team-best batting average of .545, SLG % of .818, and OB % of .500 notching six hits, three doubles, earning one walk, scoring four runs and driving in four runs. While on the mound he led the way pitching a season-best outing of 5.0 shutout innings as he limited the Spartans to two hits, one walk and struck out a season-best five batters to earn the victory and clinch the Knights their sixth straight postseason appearance. Sealey recorded a hit in all four games including a three-hit performance with two doubles, one RBI and one run scored in the Knights 8-3 victory. In the postseason clinching 5-0 shutout victory, the senior went 1-2 AB with two runs scored, one RBI and produced five shutout innings on the mound to earn the win as he held the Spartans to a batting average of .125.
