No. 6 Molloy Battles No. 3 SNHU in NCAA Women's Soccer East Region Championship First Round

RINDGE, NH
 – The sixth-seeded Molloy women's soccer team battled against the third-seeded Southern New Hampshire Penmen in the First Round of the NCAA East Regional Friday afternoon at Sodexo Field on the campus of Franklin Pierce University. The Lions fell, 2-1, finishing the campaign 12-5-2.

How it Happened
  • Southern New Hampshire started quickly with a shot 2:53 into the contest, but sophomore Elyse Munoz made the save.
  • The first chance of the game for Molloy found the back of the net in the fifth minute. Sophomore Isabella Muro settled down a ball and fired it into an open net to put Molloy on the board, 1-0.
  • The lead was short lived, as the Penmen would knot the contest at one 55 seconds later following a goal from Alexsis Weiser.
  • The game would turn into a defensive battle over the next 15 minutes, as neither team was able to generate a shot on target.
  • In the 23rd minute Southern New Hampshire looked to break the tie, but Munoz denied the chance.
  • In the 27th minute, the Penmen would take a 2-1 lead following Weiser's second goal of the afternoon following a cross pass in the six-yard box.
  • Munoz would go on to make two more saves and the Lions were held without a shot for the remainder of the half, sending the contest into halftime with Molloy behind, 2-1.
  • Coming out of the break the Penmen looked to add an insurance goal, totaling two shots on net in the opening 13 minutes, but Munoz made a pair of saves to keep Molloy within one.
  • In the 68th minute, Muro streaked down the sideline and fired a shot looking for the games equalizer, but the shot was denied by SNHU goalkeeper Claudia Keith.
  • Muro would have one last opportunity in the 76th minute, but her shot would be saved by Keith.
  • The cardinal and white would hold off a furious SNHU attack in the final 14 minutes, but would be held without a shot as the contest would finish with the Penmen securing a 2-1 victory.
Top Performances
  • Muro netted her eighth goal of the season while collecting the squads three shots.
  • In goal, Munoz made eight saves.
