STAC's Hearns named Met Basketball D2/D3 MBB Player of the Week

NEW YORK (Feb. 24, 2026) --- Starrell Hearns of St. Thomas Aquinas College has been named Divs. II/III Men’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
 
The designation, for games played Feb. 16-22, is unique in that it encompasses players from 49 Met area schools across Divisions II and III.

This is the first MBWA Player of the Week nod in his college career for Hearns.

A 6-2 junior guard from Carteret, NJ, Hearns --- who also was named the East Coast Conference player of the week --- averaged 21.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals as the Spartans (16-11, 12-3) defeated Molloy 83-75 on the road Wednesday and upended Queens 94-85 at home Sunday.
 
Hearns began the week against Molloy by posting 14 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals in just 25 minutes of action.
 
He then contributed a double-double of 29 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Queens.
 
For the week, Hearns shot 44.1% (15-of-34) from the floor, including 53.3% (8-of-15) from beyond the arc, and a perfect 5-of-5 at the free throw line.
