DOBBS FERRY, NY – Mercy University women's lacrosse senior Lindsey Shimborske (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) has been named the 2025 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Shimborske becomes the first Maverick in program history to earn the honor.
Nominees for the award must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of athletic eligibility, have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA, and be a starter or significant reserve for their team. One winner is picked from NCAA Division I, II, and III and the NAIA.
Shimborske graduated with a 3.99 GPA as a Health Science major with a concentration in Physical Therapy in May. The defender has been named IWLCA All-American each of the last three seasons and has been tabbed USA Lacrosse Magazine All-American three times. Shimborske has been named ECC Defender of the Year three times and is a four-time IWLCA All-Region recipient. The four-time First Team All-ECC honoree and 2022 ECC Rookie of the Year ends her career with a school-record 175 caused turnovers and is second in ground balls (219) and draw controls (392). The team captain played in the IWLCA Division II Senior All-Star Game and was named the ECC Championship's Most Outstanding Player in 2023.
Academically, Shimborske has been named the ECC Women's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year three times and has been named College Sports Communicators Academic All-American three times. The native of Farmingdale, New York has also been named College Sports Communicators Academic All-District three times, named to the ECC Commissioner's Honor Roll four times, earned the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award three times and has been named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll four times.
Shimborske leaves Mercy as one of the most decorated student-athletes in school history, both athletically and academically.
