COLONIA, NJ – Two of the most prolific men's soccer scorers in the country this year have been recognized as All-Americans, as Mercy junior forward Johannes Hanken Tjostheim and Queens junior forward Harry Cooke have earned First Team selection by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA). Hanken Tjostheim also earned a Third Team spot from United Soccer Coaches.
A D2CCA and United Soccer Coaches All-Region First Team pick and the ECC Offensive Player Of the Year, Hanken Tjostheim had a team-high 50 points on 22 goals and six assists, tying the single-season school record for goals. The junior ranks second in Division II in goals per game (1.29), third in points per game (2.94), and fourth in goals and points. The two-time ECC Offensive Player of the Week was named First Team All-ECC for the second straight year and recorded at least one point in 12 of 17 matches this fall. Hanken Tjostheim had a career-high four goals in the win over Staten Island and recorded his 100th career point during the season.
A D2CCA and United Soccer Coaches All-Region First Team selection and All-ECC First Team forward, Cooke was one of three Knights to start all 18 games with a team-high 1,429 total minutes played would go on to rewrite the single-season program record by notching 23 goals and seven assists for a total of 53 points. In the nation, Cooke is ranked first in game-winning goals (8), second in total points, and is tied for second in total goals. In eight conference games, the junior recorded 14 goals and one assist with five game-winning goals.
Sports Information Directors from the NCAA Division II schools and conference selected the three D2CCA All-America teams. The process begins at the regional level with all All-Region First Team picks advancing to the national ballot. The D2CCA encourages and promotes DII athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact DII intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA DII member colleges and universities.
