ECC Men's Soccer Report - Week One

Offensive Player of the Week

Ignacio Lopez, District of Columbia
Junior | Midfielder | Madrid, Spain
Lopez led the Firebirds to a 2-0 record, tallying 5 points on 2 goals and an assist. He opened up the scoring against Shepherd, for the Firebirds converting a penalty kick and then went on to assist the game-winning goal.  In the 3-1 win over Goldey-Beacom, he also scored the first goal.


Defensive Player of the Week

Eric Jewson, Roberts Wesleyan
Senior | Goalkeeper | Binghamton, NY

Senior Eric Jewson opened the season with a pair of shutouts as Roberts Wesleyan went on the road and defeated Malone University 1-0 and then traveled to Walsh University and posted a 2-0 win. Jewson finished the weekend with 11 saves, including seven in the win at Walsh. The wins were his 9th and 10th of his career, and he has recorded six career shutouts.


Rookie of the Week

Carlos Villa, Queens
Freshman | Defender | Medellín, Colombia

In a 1-0-1 week for the Knights, rookie defender Carlos Villa made an immediate impact in his debut, notching three points (one goal, one assist), scoring his first career goal and the game-winner in a dominant 6-0 shutout over Holy Family. The Colombian native also played a crucial role in a stingy defensive effort that held the Tigers to just five shots and zero shots on goal. Villa continued his strong play Saturday night, helping the Knights secure a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Saint Anselm.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Harry Cooke, Queens
Senior | Forward | Market Drayton, England

In a 1-0-1 week for the Knights, senior forward Harry Cooke picked up right where he left off in 2024, recording his fourth career hat-trick in a dominant 6-0 win over Holy Family. Cooke opened his goal count in the first half and completed the hat-trick with a second-half brace, leading the Knights to their first win of the season.

Larry Noel, Daemen
Senior | Forward | Nassau, Bahamas

Noel scored the decisive goal for Daemen in the 62nd minute, breaking the deadlock and giving the Wildcats a 2-1 lead. The strike marked the first game-winning goal of his career.

Miguel Gonzalez Soto, Queens
Junior | Forward | Madrid, Spain

In a 1-0-1 week for the Knights, junior forward Miguel Soto Gonzalez matched a team-high six points, registering two goals and two assists. Soto Gonzalez opened the season strong, recording four points (1 goal, 2 assists) in Thursday’s 6-0 win over Holy Family. He followed that performance with his second goal of the year in Saturday night’s 1-1 draw against Saint Anselm.


Murphy Archie, Roberts Wesleyan
Junior | Forward | Bourne End, England

Junior Archie Murphy moved into the starting role on the Roberts Wesleyan front line and made an immediate impact with the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win at Malone in the season opener and then added an assist on the game-winning goal in the 2-0 win at Walsh.

Sergio Becerra, District of Columbia
Senior | Goalkeeper | Barakaldo/Vizcaya/Spain

Becerra made 9 saves, while allowing only two goals in a 2-0 week for the Firebirds. In the Firebirds 2-1 win over Shepherd, he made a game high 6 saves, he then went on to make 3 saves in the Firebirds 3-1 win over Goldey-Beacom.
