WEST BABYLON, N.Y. - For the second year in a row, Ebba Rosberg (Stockholm, Sweden) headlined the ECC Women’s Tennis All-Conference selections announced on Thursday, as the St. Thomas Aquinas standout was unanimously named the league’s Player of the Year. In addition, University of the District of Columbia’s Polina Zelentsova (Chaiky, Ukraine) was picked as the ECC Rookie of the Year.
Rosberg was unbeatable in singles play during dual matches this fall. She went 12-0 overall, which included a 4-0 record in ECC play. All 12 dual match wins came at the No. 1 position as the senior also became the first-ever Spartan to capture the ITA Division II Women's East Regional Singles Championship. Rosberg excelled in doubles action, primarily with partner Samanta Villegas Robles, finishing with an overall record of 11-1, 7-0 record at the No. 1 position, and 5-0 record in ECC play.
Zelentsova takes home the highest rookie honor after going 6-4 overall and 2-1 in ECC play and advancing to the Round of 16 at the ITA Division II Women's East Regional Singles Championship in her first collegiate season. The two-time ECC Rookie of the Week earned No. 2 singles wins over D'Youville and St. Thomas Aquinas and teamed up with parter Sofia Bellucco to earn an ECC doubles win over D'Youville, finishing doubles play with an overall record of 3-5.
Queens' Alan Nagel and St. Thomas Aquinas' Daniel Rockhill were awarded ECC Co-Coach of the Year honors. In his 45th season, Nagel led the Knights to a perfect 7-0 record and a 5-0 mark in conference play to capture the league's regular-season championship while Rockhill guided the Spartans to a 7-1 record (4-1 ECC) and an ITA Division II Women's East Regional Singles Championship and Doubles Final in his second season at the helm.
