Queens College Wins East Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Championship

Knights defeats D’Youville, 4-0 to earn conference automatic bid to NCAA Championships

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College Knights captured their second consecutive East Coast Conference (ECC) Championship with a 4–0 victory over the D’Youville University Saints on Tuesday night. With the win, Queens earns the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships.

Several singles matches went unfinished after Queens secured the victory. At first singles, Munisa Ashurbekova (DYU) was leading All-Conference selection Marie Bertran (QC), 4–3, when play was halted.

At second singles, Sixtine Goubet (QC) led fellow All-Conference selection Nele Herbst (DYU), 6–2, 2–2, before the match was stopped.

ECC Player of the Year Lilie Bizouerne (QC) earned a decisive win at third singles, defeating All-Conference selection Mina Randjelovic (DYU), 6–1, 6–0.

At fourth singles, All-ECC pick Erika Ismailova (DYU) held a 6–5 lead over ECC Rookie of the Year Ela Vasic (QC) when play was halted.

Queens secured additional completed singles victories at the bottom of the lineup. Johanne Genestay (QC), an All-Conference selection, defeated Maria Campisi (DYU), 6–0, 6–1, at fifth singles, while Regina Ruiz (QC) posted a 6–0, 6–0 win at sixth singles.

In doubles action, Queens clinched the point with strong performances at the second and third positions. Bizouerne and Goubet (QC) defeated Ismailova and Randjelovic (DYU), 6–2, at second doubles, while Genestay and Lydia Zafeiri (QC) topped Campisi and Prokopenko (DYU), 6–1, at third doubles.

The first doubles match between Bertran and Vasic (QC) and Ashurbekova and Herbst (DYU) was halted with the score tied at 3–3.
