COLONIA, NJ – The East Coast Conference announced its 2025 Men’s Lacrosse All-Conference honorees and major award winners on Wednesday morning ahead of the start of the 2025 ECC Men’s Lacrosse Championship. The Mercy duo of graduate student attackman Jimmy Osorio (Ronkonkoma, NY) and senior close defenseman Owen Stephenson (Glen Rock, NJ) were selected the Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, respectively, while Molloy senior netminder Christian Michaels (Smithtown, NY) earned Goalkeeper of the Year honors.
Molloy freshman close defenseman Aiden Dinnigan (Oakdale, NY) and Mercy freshman attackman Cole Hunsberger (Waterloo, Ontario) share Rookie of the Year accolades while Lions’ head coach Bill Dunn takes home this year’s Coach of the Year nod. All voting was completed by the league’s seven head coaches.
Topping the conference in both goals per game (3.75, second nationally) and points per game (4.75, 14th nationally), Osorio put up 57 points on 45 goals and 12 assists this spring. In ECC play, the Mercy graduate student attackman topped the conference in total goals (25) and points (29), posting multi-goal efforts in all six games, including six against Roberts Wesleyan, five against District of Columbia and Frostburg State, four against St. Thomas Aquinas, three against Molloy, and two against D’Youville. All four of his helpers on the season also came across those six conference games.
With 50 ground balls and 26 caused turnovers across 12 games, Stephenson anchored a Mercy defense that allowed just 9.25 goals per game, which ranked Top 20 nationally. The senior close defenseman averaged 2.36 caused turnovers per game, which sat second in the conference and ninth nationally, and 4.55 ground balls per game, which finished sixth overall in the ECC but first among all non-face-off specialists. 30 of his 50 ground balls and 17 of his 26 caused turnovers came against ECC competition, including 7GB, 5CT against St. Thomas Aquinas, 7GB, 4CT against District of Columbia, 6GB, 2CT (plus a goal!) vs. Roberts Wesleyan, 5GB, 3CT vs Frostburg State, and 4GB, 3CT vs. Molloy.
A three-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week, Michaels went 13-4 overall (5-1 ECC), topping the country in save percentage (.654) and ranking fourth nationally in goals against average (6.38), both of which led the conference. Michaels was strong in conference play with a 6.55 goals against average, .619 save percentage, and 8.67 saves per game average, making 14 stops vs. six goals allowed against Frostburg State and 17 saves vs. 13 goals allowed vs. Mercy. The Molloy senior goalkeeper held the other four ECC teams to a combined 13 goals allowed.
Dinnigan recorded 43 ground balls and 32 caused turnovers in his freshman campaign, including 13 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers in ECC competition. The Molloy rookie close defenseman went for 5GB, 4CT against D’Youville and 4G, 3CT against District of Columbia and forced three turnovers in the regular season finale against Mercy.
Hunsberger notched 31 points in his rookie season, with 20 goals and 11 assists. The Mercy freshman attackman had 14 of those points in ECC play, with 3G, 2A against Roberts Wesleyan, 3G against D’Youville, 2G against Molloy, 1G against both Frostburg State and St. Thomas Aquinas, and 2A vs. District of Columbia.
In his fourth year at the helm of the Lions, Dunn led Molloy to a 13-4 overall record and 5-1 mark in ECC play along with the No. 2 seed entering this week’s ECC Men’s Lacrosse Championship. The Lions have been ranked in this season’s USILA’s national Top 20 since February 24 and sit the Top 10 of NCAA Division II in man down defense (.845, second) and overall scoring defense (6.18, third), ground balls (673, second), ground balls per game (39.59, sixth), caused turnovers per game (12.06, sixth), total points (412, sixth), total assists (155, eighth), scoring margin (15.12, ninth), face-off winning percentage (.626, 10th), and clearing percentage (.908, 10th).
