Molloy and Frostburg State Advance to the East Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Championship Game

The Bobcats needed overtime to upset Mercy, 9-8; The Lions won over Roberts Wesleyan 11-7

COLONIA, NJ – The East Coast Conference (ECC) men’s lacrosse championship game is set, as top-seeded and regular season champion Molloy University will host third-seeded Frostburg State University. The two teams will face off on Saturday, May 2, in Rockville Centre, NY.

Frostburg State’s Tyrin Long secured the dramatic comeback victory, picking up a ground ball and firing in the game-winning goal from about 10 yards out with just one second remaining in overtime.
 
The Bobcats forced overtime with seven seconds left in regulation, when All-ECC First Team selection Hayden Celio scored off an assist from Chase Kelly.
 
Frostburg opened the scoring, but Mercy responded with five of the next six goals to take a 5–2 lead with 6:48 remaining in the second quarter. The Mavericks carried a 5–3 advantage into halftime. Frostburg tied the game at 7–7 with 7:14 left in the fourth quarter, but Mercy regained the lead at the 3:44 mark before the Bobcats’ late equalizer.
 
Celio (2 goals, 1 assist) and Henry Sykes (3 goals) led Frostburg with three points each. Goalkeeper Jack Smith earned the win with nine saves.
 
For Mercy, All-ECC First Team selections Devon Duchnowski (3 goals) and Cole Hunsberger (1 goal, 2 assists) each recorded three points. All-ECC Second Team goalkeeper Cameron Dorfman made 14 saves in the loss.

Molloy controlled the game from start to finish, never trailing and leading by as many as five goals in its semifinal victory over Roberts Wesleyan.
 
The Lions struck early with two goals in the first 1:09 and led 3–2 after the first quarter. They extended the lead by outscoring Roberts 3–1 in the second quarter to take a 6–3 halftime advantage. Molloy added the first two goals of the third quarter to build an 8–3 lead.
 
The Redhawks closed the gap to 8–5 with two late third-quarter goals, but Molloy answered with three of the next four scores to put the game out of reach at 11–6.
 
ECC Offensive Player of the Year Brian Green led Molloy with four points (1 goal, 3 assists). All-Conference First Team selection Tommy Corcoran also totaled four points (2 goals, 2 assists). ECC Goalkeeper of the Year John Basile made 13 saves in the win.
 
For Roberts Wesleyan, Colin Duncan led the way with four points (3 goals, 1 assist), while goalkeeper Landon Brimmer recorded 20 saves.
