ECC Men's Basketball Report - Week 9

Player of the Week

Aaron Goldstein, Staten Island
Junior | G | Staten Island, N.Y.

Goldstein had an outstanding week for the Dolphins, as he averaged 32.5 points per game across two wins for The College of Staten Island. In addition, he recorded his 1,000 career point in a win over St. Thomas Aquinas, in which he scored 36 points. He was 56.5 percent from the field (13-for-23) and 53.8 percent (7-13) from the three-point line. He also had five assists. In an overtime win over Mercy, Goldstein was 62.5 percent (10-of-16) from the field with three three-pointers. He also had four assists. He has scored in double figures in all but two games this season.  


Defensive Player of the Week

Zach Philipkoski, Daemen
Junior | G | New Hartford, N.Y. 

Zach Philipkoski led Daemen's defensive efforts as the No. 2 ranked Wildcats improved to 20-0 with ECC road wins over Queens and Molloy. Philipkoski equaled his season-high with three blocks in the win over Queens. He equaled his career-high with three steals in the win over Molloy.


Rookie of the Week

Sean Reynolds, D'Youville
Freshman | G | Dekalb, Ill.

Reynolds helped the Saints go 1-1 on the week. The freshman guard shot 41% from the field and 43% from beyond the three-point line, making 10 of his shots. In the team’s overtime win against Queens College, Reynolds when 6-for-11 from three-point land.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Justin Hemphill, Daemen
Redshirt Senior | F | Buffalo, N.Y.
Justin Hemphill played a starring role in leading No. 2 Daemen to two more conference wins, improving the Wildcats to 20-0 overall. Hemphill, a 6-foot-6 redshirt senior forward, averaged 21.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 50% from the field (17-for-34) as Daemen defeated Queens (75-67) and Molloy (116-74). Hemphill registered 19 points and 12 rebounds against Queens, and flirted with a triple-double vs. Molloy, finishing with a season-high 23 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. Hemphill has now posted six double-doubles this season, and is now leading the conference in assists per game (5.1). He is the only player to rank among the league's top five leaders in assists, rebounds, blocks and steals.

Kohen Rowbatham, Mercy
Sophomore | G | Slidell, La.  
Rowbatham had a game-high and career-high 32 points on 15-of-23 shooting playing all 45 minutes with three rebounds, two assists and one steal in Mercy's overtime loss to CSI on Saturday.

Tahj-Malik Campbell, Queens
Senior | F | Philadelphia, Pa.  

Senior forward Tahj-Malik Campbell averaged 21.0 points on 53.1 percent shooting, 9.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.5 blocks, and 2.0 steals per game. Campbell recorded his seventh double-double of the season with a game-high 22 points and 10 rebounds against No. 2 Daemen on Friday evening, adding five assists, a career-best four blocks, and two steals. On Sunday, he led all Knights with 20 points, along with nine rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block against D’Youville.
 
Michael Harrell, District of Columbia
Graduate Student | SG | Laurel, Md.

Across two games, Harrell averaged 15.0 points per game while shooting an impressive 53 percent from the field. He also contributed 2.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game. In UDC’s conference win over Mercy, Harrell finished with 13 points, four rebounds, and two assists, He followed that performance with a team-high 17 points against St. Thomas Aquinas, shooting 66.7 percent from the field while dishing out three assists.
 
Jordan Trahan, Mercy
Junior | G | New Orleans, La.

Trahan averaged 21.5 points per game on 48.4 percent shooting with 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 3.0 steals and 0.5 blocks per game as Mercy went 0-2 on the week. The junior opened the week with a game-high 28 points to go with nine rebounds, four steals and one assist at UDC on Wednesday. The guard ended the week with 15 points, six rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block in the overtime loss to CSI on Saturday.
 
Dylan Kopp, Molloy
Sophomore | G | East Quogue, N.Y.

Kopp averaged 16 points per game in Molloy's 1-1 week. The sophomore collected 19 points in the Lions victory over D'Youville on Friday while grabbing five rebounds, and swiping four steals.
 
Derrick James, St. Thomas Aquinas
Senior | G | Columbus, Ohio

James averaged 16.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game in two contests last week for STAC. The senior guard tallied 18 points, grabbed two rebounds, dished out three assists and swiped a steal in 36 minutes in a 95-85 road loss at Staten Island before recording 14 points, two rebounds, 10 assists and four steals in 33 minutes in a 93-77 home victory over District of Columbia. Derrick shot 50.0 percent (13-26) from the field
