FLUSHING, N.Y. – A fresh start as Queens College Director of Athletics and Recreation, Robert Twible announces that Travis Ponton has been named the new women's basketball head coach and will assume his duties immediately.

A coaching resume that spans over 16 years, Ponton brings an extensive and impressive career to Flushing, including having served as the women's basketball head coach at Bryn Athyn College over the past six seasons.

"We are pleased to welcome Travis to our Knights family. His experience and leadership qualities make him an excellent fit to lead our women's program to the next level." Stated Twible. "We are excited for what the future holds under his leadership."

In addition to his head coaching experience, Ponton has held various coaching positions at the Division I, NAIA, and high school levels, such as Charleston Southern, Southeastern Louisiana, Mount Saint Mary's, and LIU Brooklyn.

Ponton arrives in Flushing having taken Bryn Athyn to four straight Colonial States Athletic Conference/United East Conference Tournament berths, including back-to-back UEC semifinals appearances in 2024 and 2025.

Ponton stated, "I am so excited to be here at Queens and extremely grateful to Athletic Director Rob Twible for the opportunity to lead this storied program into a new chapter. New York City is a basketball city, so I'm blessed that my journey has led me back! We've got plenty of hard work ahead of us, so we are going to hit the ground running with our team and get to work this fall."

The All-Time Winningest coach in Bryn Athyn women's basketball history, Ponton would lead the Lions to tremendous success as they were ranked among the best in the NCAA DIII in various categories. Offensively, his teams ranked high in offensive rebounding, scoring margin, and turnover margin. Defensively, they excelled in scoring defense and field goal percentage defensively as they established a reputation for disciplined, high effort play on both ends of the court.

The 2025-2026 women's basketball schedule will be released in mid-September.
