PLEASANTVILLE, NY – Sarah Clancy tossed a one-hit complete game shutout, as the St. Thomas Aquinas Softball team posted a 2-0 victory over Bentley University on Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament at Pace University.
BOX SCORE
The win pushed STAC's overall record to 31-19, while Bentley slips to 24-20.
The fifth-seeded Spartans advance to the second round Friday at 12:00 p.m. to meet top-seeded Pace University, which topped D'Youville University, 3-0, in today's other first-round game. *PLEASE NOTE THAT FRIDAY'S GAMES ARE SUBJECT TO TIME CHANGE OR POSTPONEMENT DUE TO FORECASTED WEATHER*
A pair of fourth inning runs would be all of the offense that the maroon and gold would need to take down the Falcons. First, an Eliana Raposo RBI single would score Adriana Coira to make it 1-0, followed by a Bentley fielding error which allowed Trinadey Santiago to reach first base safely and Raposo to come to the plate to put STAC ahead 2-0.
Starting pitcher Sarah Clancy would be the story of the day, as she allowed just two base runners, via a double and a walk, in seven innings of work. The lefty also struck out nine batters to run her record to 18-11 on the year.
STAC's second-round opponent Pace swept a late-March home twin bill from the Spartans by the scores of 6-2 and 8-1. The schools are separated by a little more than 15 miles.
