STAC's Vieira Headlines ECC Men's Volleyball Major Awards

COLONIA, NJ – The East Coast Conference announced its 2025 Men’s Volleyball All-Conference honorees and major award winners on Thursday afternoon ahead of this weekend’s second ever ECC Men’s Volleyball Championship. St. Thomas Aquinas sophomore outside hitter/opposite hitter Gabriel Vieira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) was named the Player of the Year while Roberts Wesleyan junior Moises Jimenez (Cayey, Puerto Rico) defended his Libero of the Year title and Redhawks’ freshman Landon Brouwer (Shorewood, IL) earned Setter of the Year honors in his first collegiate season. Roberts Wesleyan’s Ryan DeJohn (Irondequoit, NY) and Dominican’s Blake Krapf (Old Bridge, NJ) share Co-Rookie of the Year honors while Mike Dedee of Roberts Wesleyan and Patrick Ernst of Dominican are Co-Coaches of the Year for the second straight season. All voting was completed by the league’s four head coaches.

Six-time ECC Player of the Week Vieira led the conference in total points (355.5), posting 5.01 points per set to rank seventh nationally on his way to ECC Player of the Year honors. He also led the conference and ranked second nationally in kills per set (4.34, 308 total) while topping the conference and ranking fourth nationally in attacks per set (9.42). The STAC outside hitter/opposite hitter ranked third in the ECC in total blocks (60) and blocks per set (.85) and sat eighth in digs per set (104, 1.46). Across 18 sets of conference play, Vieira dropped an ECC-leading 83 kills with a .324 hitting percentage with 29 kills across six sets against Roberts Wesleyan and 22 kills across six sets against both Dominican and American International. 

Paced by Vieira’s breakthrough sophomore campaign, the Spartans led the ECC in assists per set (10.47), blocks per set (2.28), digs per set (9.20), hitting percentage (.238), kills per set (11.16), and opponent hitting percentage (.205, 11th nationally). With an unblemished 6-0 conference mark (14-9 overall), Vieira and the Spartans took home the ECC Regular Season Championship for the second year in a row and earned the right to host this weekend’s ECC Championship at the STAC Spartan Athletic Complex in Sparkill, NY. 

Five-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week Jimenez repeated as the ECC Libero of the Year after leading the conference with 229 total digs for an average of 2.54 digs per set, which ranked second in the league and eighth in the nation. Jimenez posted 22 digs against Dominican, 15 digs against American International, and 14 digs against St. Thomas Aquinas. 

Brouwer totaled 789 assists through 92 overall sets to average 8.58 assists per set en route to ECC Setter of the Year honors in his rookie campaign. The five-time ECC Setter of the Week and six-time ECC Rookie of the Week averaged 10.24 assists per set through 17 sets of conference play, including 82 against Dominican, 60 against St. Thomas Aquinas, and 32 against American International.

Freshman outside hitter DeJohn shares ECC Rookie of the Year honors after dominating conference play, totaling 85 points, 4.05 points per set, 76 kills, and 3.62 kills per set, all of which led conference freshmen and ranked second overall. The two-time ECC Player of the Week and one-time ECC Rookie of the Week also ranked second in total digs (54) and digs per set (2.57) and sixth in hitting percentage (.225) among ECC competition. 

Led by Jimenez, Brouwer, and DeJohn, the Redhawks lead the conference in aces per set (1.35) and team attacks per set (28.63) and rank second in assists per set (10.00), digs per set (9.12), kills per set (10.80), and opponent hitting percentage (.237). Roberts Wesleyan (10-17, 3-3 ECC) heads into this weekend’s ECC Championship as the No. 2 seed. 

Dominican’s Krapf shares ECC Rookie of the Year honors after making a splash with 70 points (3.68 points per set), and 60 kills (3.16 kills per set) among conference competition. Through all 27 regular season contests, the redshirt freshman outside hitter led the ECC in aces per set (.35), and led all freshmen with 3.68 points per set and 8.08 attacks per set, both of which ranked second overall, and 3.09 kills per set, which ranked third. 

Krapf alongside fellow All-Conference selections Tommaso Falchi and Ayden Shaw lead a Chargers squad that ranks second in the ECC in aces per set (1.17) and blocks per set (1.84) and enter this weekend’s ECC Championship as the No. 3 seed.

Dedee and Ernst share ECC Coach of the Year honors for the second straight year after guiding their squads to identical 3-3 marks in conference play. Dedee’s Redhawks finished the regular season 10-17 overall while Ernst’s Chargers went 6-21.

Dominican’s Tommaso Falchi and Ayden Shaw and American International’s Emil Zhmaidziak join DeJohn, Krapf, Jimenez, and Vieira on the ECC Men’s Volleyball All-Conference Team.
