ECC Men's Lacrosse Report - Week Five

Offensive Player of the Week

Isaac Marrero, Roberts Wesleyan
Junior | FO | Utica, NY

Morrero was one of the keys to victory for the Redhawks in the ECC opener against District of Columbia on Saturday. The RWU junior face-off specialist controlled the X with a perfect 20-for-20 showing and a team-high 16 ground balls in the Redhawks’ 23-3 home win. He also scored a goal just seven seconds into the game, as he won the face-off and raced in for the shot and goal to kick off RWU’s offensive dominance. 


Defensive Player of the Week

Logan Covey, Frostburg State
Senior | GK | Westminster, MD

Covey recorded 34 total saves with just 12 goals allowed as team went 1-1 in the week. In a 9-7 loss against Wilmington, he set a new program single-game record with 24 saves, while also picking up four ground balls and causing a turnover. During the 10-3 win over D'Youville, he made 10 saves against just the three allowed goals, again going for four ground balls and a caused turnover. 


Co-Rookies of the Week

Casey Berns, D’Youville
Freshman | GK | Webster, NY

Berns went 1-1 in the cage this past week, making 42 saves while grabbing six ground balls. Berns tied a single-game record for saves with 24 against Frostburg State while adding five ground balls.

Vinny Rosario, St. Thomas Aquinas
Freshman | FO | Ridge, NY

Rosario racked up eight ground balls and won 16-of-24 face-off attempts (67.0 percent) for the Spartans in a 12-11 overtime victory over Post last week.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Aidan Babnik, Mercy
Graduate Student | M | Carmel, NY

Babnik had three goals, one assist, three ground balls, and one caused turnover at No. 8 Saint Anselm on Saturday. 

Cody Coleman, Roberts Wesleyan
Freshman | M | Rush, NY

Coleman doubled his scoring output for the season with a hat trick in the ECC opener for Roberts Wesleyan against UDC. He scored twice in the first quarter and once in the second quarter to help RWU build an early lead.

Baylor Davis, Frostburg State
Sophomore | A | Freeland, MD

In his first appearances of the season, Davis scored four total goals to go with an assist as team went 1-1 in the week. He was the lone Bobcat to score multiple goals in a 9-7 loss to Wilmington, following up with three points on a pair of goals and an assist in 10-3 win over D'Youville. 

Thomas Kofod, Molloy
Junior | LSM | Seaford, NY

Kofod tallied 12 ground balls and eight caused turnovers in a 2-0 week for the No. 15 Lions. The junior had a career day on the road at Post with nine ground balls and six caused turnovers, both numbers setting new career-highs.

Lucas Mullen, St. Thomas Aquinas
Freshman | A | Vancouver, British Columbia

Mullen dropped seven points on four goals and three assists in St. Thomas Aquinas’ 12-11 OT victory over Post last week. The STAC freshman attackman also led the Spartans in shots (6) and shots on goal (6), while picking up a ground ball and a caused turnover. 

Jimmy Osorio, Mercy
Graduate Student | A | Ronkonkoma, NY

Osorio scored a game-high six goals with three ground balls against No. 8 Saint Anselm on Saturday. 

Logan Schwartz, D’Youville
Junior | D | Depew, NY

In the Saints' 1-1 week, Schwartz led the team in caused turnovers with seven while adding 11 ground balls. In the team's 11-10 win over Holy Family, Schwartz had five caused turnovers will grabbing eight ground balls.

Obrigh Tallchief, D’Youville
Sophomore | A | Irving, NY

In the Saints' 1-1 week, Tallchief led the way with five goals while adding an assist. In the team's 11-10 win over Holy Family, Tallchief had three goals while adding one assist.

Liam Taylor, Molloy
Freshman | D | Wading River, NY

Taylor's presence on defense helped No. 15 Molloy to a 2-0 week. The freshman totaled seven ground balls and two caused turnovers, with six of the ground balls and both forced turnovers coming on the road in a narrow victory at Post.

Alex Walstrum, Frostburg State
Senior | FO | Easton, MD

Walstrum went a combined 14-for-19 at the X during team's 1-1 record in the week, winning 6-of-11 against Wilmington while picking up four ground balls. He then went a perfect 8-for-8 against D'Youville while netting five ground balls.
