COLONIA, NJ – The Molloy University men’s lacrosse team added several pieces of hardware to its East Coast Conference (ECC) regular season title, sweeping all five major awards and placing 11 student-athletes on the All-Conference teams.
Leading the way for Molloy is Offensive Player of the Year
Brian Green (Kings Park, NY). The senior midfielder’s teammate, senior long stick midfielder
Thomas Kofod (Seaford, NY), earned Defensive Player of the Year honors. The Lions’ backstop, senior
John Basile (West Islip, NY), was named Goalkeeper of the Year, while freshman attackman
Jaden Simick (Milton, Ontario, Canada) earned Rookie of the Year honors.
Head coach
Bill Dunn was named ECC Coach of the Year for the sixth time in his career and for the second consecutive season with Molloy. He previously won the award four times while at the helm of New York Tech. Dunn guided the Lions to a 12-3 overall record and a perfect 6-0 mark in ECC play. As of April 20, Molloy was ranked 11th in the nation.
Green recorded 28 goals and 16 assists for 44 points from the midfield position. A First Team All-ECC selection, he also collected 23 ground balls. He ranks among the top 10 in the ECC in goals, assists, and shots per game, recording at least one point in all 15 contests and posting eight multi-goal games.
Kofod, the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, earned Second Team All-ECC honors as a long stick midfielder. He totaled 44 ground balls and 27 caused turnovers and was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week and to the USILA Division II Team of the Week twice.
Basile, a six-time ECC Goalie of the Week and First Team All-ECC selection, played all but 50 minutes in goal this season. He posted an 8.00 goals-against average and a .586 save percentage. He leads the ECC in goals-against average (ranking eighth nationally) and recorded eight games with double-digit saves, including a career-high 18 against Frostburg State.
Simick, who was named ECC Rookie of the Week on April 13, recorded 10 multi-point games this season. He ranked second among ECC freshmen in points and earned Second Team All-ECC honors at attack.
The Lions are the top seed in the ECC Men’s Lacrosse Championship, which begins this afternoon. They will host fourth-seeded Roberts Wesleyan University at 4 p.m. In the other semifinal, second-seeded Mercy University will host third-seeded Frostburg State University at noon.
