ECC Men's Basketball Report - Week 16

Co-Players of the Week

Damiri Lindo, Queens
Senior | G/F | Oakland, CA

In two comeback victories to clinch the No. 3 seed, Lindo averaged 20.0 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game for the Knights. On Wednesday, Lindo recorded 15 points, four rebounds, and five assists as Queens erased a 12-point deficit to defeat District of Columbia, 78-68. With their backs against the wall, Lindo led the Knights in their 25-point comeback victory over Staten Island, recording a season-best 25 points; Lindo dropped 18 of those points in the second half and hit the game-winning bucket with 14 seconds remaining en route to the 77-75 victory.

Rob Matos, Molloy
Sophomore | G | Fredericksburg, VA

Matos averaged 24.5 points per game to go with 50.0 percent field goal shooting in a 1-1 week for the Lions. The sophomore also added 10 assists and four steals on the week. Matos scored 24 points and added eight assists in a four-point loss to Staten Island before pouring in a game-high 25 points in Molloy’s playoff-clinching, 108-78 win over District of Columbia.


Defensive Player of the Week

Matt Lane, Molloy
Graduate Student | C | Bethpage, NY

Lane posted 38 rebounds across two games, including a Molloy single-game program-record 23 boards (16 defensive) to go with with 10 points, two assists, and two blocks in the Lions’ playoff-clinching, 108-78 win over District of Columbia on Saturday. In a four-point loss to Staten Island, Lane had pulled down 15 rebounds (nine defensive) with nine points and two blocks. On the week, the Molloy graduate student averaged 19.0 rebounds per game and 2.0 blocks per game to go with 10.0 points per game. 


Rookie of the Week

Tyler Michel, Queens
Freshman | G | Cambria Heights, NY

In two key ECC starts, Michel averaged 11.0 points, 3.0 assists, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game to help the Knights to a 2-0 week and the No. 3 seed in this week’s ECC Men’s Basketball Championship. Michel began the week recording a career-high 12 points on 50.0 percent shooting to go with three assists and two steals as Queens completed a 12-point deficit to defeat District of Columbia, 78-68, on Wednesday evening. In a stunning 77-75 victory over Staten Island to clinch the No. 3 seed on Saturday, the QC freshman guard scored 10 points, all in the second half, to go with four rebounds, three assists, and one steal.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Shaun Arnold, St. Thomas Aquinas
Sophomore | G/F | Indianapolis, IN

Arnold averaged 14.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 3.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks over two contests last week. The STAC sophomore guard/forward recorded 12 points, 15 rebounds, three assists and two steals in 29 minutes in an 87-84 non-conference triumph over Goldey-Beacom, then tallied 17 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, five steals and three blocks in 21 minutes in a 102-75 win against Mercy. Arnold shot 46.0 percent (11-of-24) from the field and 100.0 percent (6-of-6) from the foul line.

Benjamin Bill, Daemen
Redshirt Sophomore | C | Hamburg, NY

Bill notched a double-double with 25 points (12-of-12 FG) and 11 defensive rebounds with five blocks in #1/2 Daemen’s regular season finale win over Roberts Wesleyan. 

Malik Brooks, Roberts Wesleyan
Graduate Student | G | Lockport, NY

Brooks led Roberts to a 1-1 week and clinched the No. 4 seed and a home game in the First Round of the ECC Men’s Basketball Championship as he scored 40 points (20.0 per game) with 18 rebounds, six assists, and three steals. In the win over D'Youville, Brooks scored 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Arnardo Camacho, Roberts Wesleyan
Junior | G | Bronx, NY

Camacho led the Roberts Wesleyan defense as the Redhawks clinched a home game in the First Round of the ECC Men’s Basketball Championship this week. Camacho totaled 17 points, 18 rebounds (16 defensive), 10 assists, and seven steals. His 16 rebounds in the win over D'Youville is the most by a guard this year in the ECC and second only to multiple high-rebound games from Molloy’s Matt Lane.

Shamar Chester, Queens
Senior | G | Queens, NY

In two key victories to clinch the No. 3 seed, Chester averaged 17.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals, and 2.5 assists for the Knights. Against District of Columbia on Wednesday, Chester recorded a season-best 21 points to go with eight rebounds, five steals, and five assists as Queens completed the comeback victory. On Saturday against Staten Island, the Queens senior guard recorded 13 points, including 10 in the second half with two three-pointers, as the Knights erased a 25-point deficit to defeat the Dolphins, 77-75, and clinch the No. 3 seed in this week’s ECC Men’s Basketball Championship. 

Chris Clancy, Staten Island
Senior | G | Staten Island, NY

Clancy averaged 16.5 points per game and shot 60.0 percent (9-of-15) from beyond the arc in two games this week. On Wednesday against Molloy, the CSI senior scored 11 points and shot 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. On Saturday against Queens, Clancy shot 6-of-10 from downtown and scored a season-high 22 points.

Tevin Curtis, District of Columbia
Senior | G | Baltimore, MD

Curtis averaged 12 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 1.0 steals per game over two games. Against Queens, Curtis posted 11 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Against Molloy, the UDC senior notched 13 points, five rebounds, and one steal.

Derrick James, St. Thomas Aquinas
Junior | G | Columbus, OH

James averaged 17.0 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.5 steals over two contests last week. The STAC junior guard recorded 26 points, four assists, and three steals in 34 minutes in an 87-84 non-conference triumph over Goldey-Beacom, then tallied eight points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals in 22 minutes in a 102-75 win against Mercy. James shot 41.0 percent (11-of-27) from the field and 100.0 percent (10-of-10) from the foul line.

Shedrach Makanjuola, Mercy
Sophomore | F | Boston, MA

Makanjuola had 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting with four rebounds, two steals, and one block at regionally-ranked STAC on Saturday. 

Messiah Mallory, Staten Island
Senior | F | Watervliet, NY

Mallory averaged 16.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game this week as the Dolphins went 1-1 and clinched a playoff spot. On Wednesday against Molloy, the CSI senior registered 20 points, 14 rebounds (11 defensive), and two blocks in the win. On Saturday, Mallory scored another 13 points to go along with nine rebounds (five defensive) and three blocks in a narrow loss to Queens.

David Pope, District of Columbia
Graduate Student | F | Cheltenham, PA

Pope averaged 13.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game over two games. Against Queens, Pope posted 11 points, four rebounds, four assists and three blocks. Against Molloy, the UDC graduate student dropped 15 points with four rebounds. 

Nathan Robertson, Mercy
Freshman | G | Boston, MA

Robertson had a game-high 19 points and a team-high eight rebounds with four assists and three steals at regionally-ranked STAC on Saturday.
