ECC Men's Basketball Report - Week 15

Player of the Week

Rob Matos, Molloy
Sophomore | G | Fredericksburg, VA

Matos averaged 26.5 points per game in a 1-1 week for the Lions, shooting at 55 percent from the field. The Molloy sophomore netted his 1,000th career point in a 30-point performance against St. Thomas Aquinas, meeting the mark in just 45 contests. He then poured in 23 points and dished out five assists in the 86-68 win over Mercy. On the week, Matos also averaged 3.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.


Defensive Player of the Week

Matt Lane, Molloy
Graduate Student | C | Bethpage, NY

Lane totaled 25 rebounds, 17 of which were defensive, in a 1-1 week for Molloy. The Lions graduate student grabbed six defensive boards while blocking two shots against St. Thomas Aquinas before going off 11 defensive boards (17 total) and a block in an 86-68 win over Mercy. 


Rookie of the Week

Nathan Robertson, Mercy
Freshman | G | Boston, MA

Robertson averaged a team-high 20.5 points per game on 51.6 percent shooting with 5.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game in two games this week. The freshman opened the week with a game-high 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting with six assists and three rebounds at Queens on Wednesday. The guard ended the week with a team-high 18 points with four assists and four rebounds against Molloy on Saturday. 


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Shaun Arnold, St. Thomas Aquinas
Sophomore | G/F | Indianapolis, IN

Arnold averaged 14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 2.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game over two contests last week. The STAC sophomore guard/forward recorded 15 points, four rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 29 minutes in a 104-83 triumph over Molloy, then tallied 13 points, 10 rebounds, one assist, four steals and three blocks in 26 minutes in a 75-68 win against Queens. Arnold shot 43.5 percent (10-of-23) from the field, and 89.0 percent (8-of-9) from the charity stripe.

Nasan Ayala, Queens
Senior | G | Lefrak City, NY

Senior Nasan Ayala averaged 17.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game in a 1-1 week for the Knights. In a key ECC victory over Mercy, Ayala recorded 22 points on 6-of-9 from the field on 66.7 percent shooting to go with nine rebounds, five assists, two blocks, and one steal as the Knights earned their sixth conference victory of the year. On Saturday, Ayala notched 12 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and one steal in a tough loss to STAC. 

Malik Brooks, Roberts Wesleyan
Graduate Student | G | Lockport, NY

Brooks led the Redhawks in both games last week with 14 points at Staten Island and 24 points at home against District of Columbia. He added eight assists and eight rebounds in the UDC game.

Renard Fontes-Jules, D’Youville
Junior | G | Brockton, MA

Fontes-Jules facilitated the offense in DYU’s 85-77 overtime loss against No. 1 Daemen, dishing out a career-high eight assists while adding nine points.

Rejuan Gray, District of Columbia
Sophomore | G | Severn, MD

Gray averaged 14.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.0 blocks per game in a 1-1 week for UDC. In the win over Roberts Wesleyan, Gray posted 16 points, nine rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and a steal. 

Hartnel Haye, St. Thomas Aquinas
Graduate Student | G/F | Camden, NJ

Haye averaged 17.0 points and 9.5 rebounds over two contests last week. The STAC graduate student guard/forward recorded 16 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and one steal in 31 minutes in a 104-83 triumph over Molloy, then tallied 18 points, 12 rebounds, and a block in 32 minutes in a 75-68 win against Queens. Haye shot 54.5 percent (12-of-22) from the field, and 83.3 percent (10-of-12) from the foul line.

Charles Holley, Jr., District of Columbia
Sophomore | Newport News, VA

Holley posted a game-high 27 points in the Firebirds’ 97-91 victory over Roberts Wesleyan, shooting 66.7 percent from behind the arc and the field. On the week, he averaged 18.0 points per game (83 percent FG) and went 9-of-12 from behind the arc. In the loss to Chestnut Hill, he went a perfect 3-3 from behind the arc.

Derrick James, St. Thomas Aquinas
Junior | G | Columbus, OH

James averaged 15.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals over two contests last week. The STAC junior guard recorded 21 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in 26 minutes in a 104-83 triumph over Molloy, then tallied 10 points, two rebounds, five assists, and a steal in 27 minutes in a 75-68 win against Queens. James shot 58.3 percent (14-of-24) from the field, 66.6 percent (2-for-3) from three and 50.0 percent (1-of-2) from the foul line.

Damiri Lindo, Queens
Senior | G/F | Oakland, CA

Senior Damiri Lindo averaged 16.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.0 assists in a 1-1 week for the Knights. The senior tallied 18 points on 55.6 percent shooting to go with seven rebounds, two steals, and one assist in a key ECC victory over Mercy on Wednesday afternoon. On Saturday, Lindo would lead the comeback attempt against STAC, recording 14 points, four rebounds, two steals, and one assist. 

Joey Poulin, Staten Island
Freshman | G | Troy, NY

Poulin helped lead the Dolphins to a conference win over Roberts Wesleyan on Wednesday with 12 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals. The freshman shot an efficient 5-of-6 from the field and 2-2 from beyond the arc in the Dolphins victory and posted his stat line in just 24 minutes.

Luis Risquez, St. Thomas Aquinas
Senior | F | Barcelona, Venezuela

Risquez recorded 15 points, 15 rebounds and a block in 28 minutes in a 75-68 win against Queens. The senior forward shot 40.0 percent (4-of-10) from the field, and 75.0 percent (6-of-8) from the charity stripe.

Ethan Robertson, Mercy
Freshman | F | Boston, MA

Robertson averaged 14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks per game in two games this week. The freshman opened the week with 11 points and five rebounds at Queens on Wednesday. The forward ended the week with a team-high-tying 18 points on 8-of-15 shooting with four rebounds against Molloy on Saturday.
