No. 3 St. Thomas Aquinas, No. 5 District of Columbia Earn ECC Men's Soccer Championship First Round Victories

SPARKILL, N.Y. – No. 3 St. Thomas Aquinas didn’t waste any time setting the tone, scoring twice in the opening 10 minutes to ultimately defeat No. 6 Molloy, 3-1, in 2025 ECC Men’s Soccer Championship First Round action at Spartan Field on Wednesday afternoon. 

The Spartans (7-7-2, 5-3-0 ECC) will now advance to face No. 2 Roberts Wesleyan (9-2-6, 4-1-3 ECC) in the 2025 ECC Men’s Soccer Championship Semifinals this Saturday, November 8 at 3:00 PM in Rochester, N.Y. 

All-ECC Second Team forward Kevon Evans scored first on a feed from All-ECC First Team back Joaquim Cardoso (8’) before Cardoso turned around and scored his own goal, assisted by Jorge De La Vibora (10’), to give STAC an early 2-0 advantage. 

De La Vibora then got in on his own scoring action, tucking away the Spartans’  third goal of the day in the 63rd minute on a feed from Francisco Degiorgi. 

Wilmer Flores put Molloy (3-7-7, 2-1-5 ECC) on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal in the 64th minute.  

All-ECC Third Team goalkeeper Dante Muntane made five saves in the full 90:00 while STAC’s defense held Molloy to 10 total shots, including just three in the first 50:07. 

ECC Offensive Player of the Year Danu Kinsella Bishop led the Lions with four shots, landing one on frame in the 51st minute, while All-ECC Third Team goalkeeper Callum Hunt made seven saves in net. 

Prior to the start of the match, St. Thomas Aquinas senior back Elias Ait Bouali was honored as the winner of 2025 ECC Men’s Soccer Elite 20 Award. Modeled off of the NCAA's Elite 90 Award, this award is presented to a competing student-athlete with the highest grade point average in each of the conference's 20 championships. Ait Bouali has compiled a perfect 4.0 GPA as a finance major.

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – All-ECC Third Team forward Alexander Moody-Stuart scored the match-winning goal in the 100th minute to lift No. 5 District of Columbia to a 1-0 overtime win over No. 4 Mercy in 2025 ECC Men’s Soccer Championship First Round action at Mercy Field on Wednesday afternoon. 

The Firebirds (9-3-4, 3-2-3 ECC) will now advance to face No. 1 Queens (12-3-3, 6-0-2 ECC) in the 2025 ECC Men’s Soccer Championship Semifinals this Saturday, November 8 at 7:00 PM in Flushing, N.Y. 

Mercy (7-6-5, 3-1-4 ECC) doubled up on UDC in shots, 12-6, throughout regulation, but the Firebirds fired off three shots and held the Mavericks without one in overtime. 

The goal of the day unfolded as All-ECC Third Team midfielder Alexander Stevens-Lee blasted a shot low center, but Mercy goalkeeper Daniel Alvarez made his fourth save of the match, and second in overtime, to keep play alive. Off Alvarez’s deflection, the ball bounced back out to a cutting Moody-Stuart, who buried the game-winner. 

The Mavericks were playing with 10 after receiving a red card in the 50th minute. 

District of Columbia goalkeeper Sergio Becerra made six saves in the full 99:12, picking up his ECC-leading seventh clean sheet of the season.
