COLONIA, NJ – A trio of the East Coast Conference's top women's volleyball standouts from the 2024 campaign have been recognized nationally as Daemen graduate student right side Giselle Giraud, Mercy graduate student middle blocker Julia Pomerleau, and Molloy graduate student outside hitter Kiarra Roth have earned All-America Honorable Mention nods from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). The AVCA All-America selections were voted on by the AVCA Division II All-America Committee.
An AVCA All-Region First Team and All-ECC First Team selection, Giraud was one of just two Daemen players to start all 26 matches this season and led the Wildcats offensively in her final campaign with 305 total kills (2.90 kills/set) on 721 attacks for a .273 hitting percentage. The Daemen right side finished the 2024 season with 34 total blocks, 109 digs, 13 assists and five aces. Giraud totaled double-digit kills in 18 matches, including a season-high 19 kills against Gannon on October 15. She posted one double-double (kills-digs) this season against Pitt-Johnstown on September 21 where she tallied 18 kills and 18 digs. The graduate student finished fifth in the ECC in hitting percentage (.273) and sixth in kills (2.9/set).
An AVCA All-Region First Team, D2CCA All-Region Second Team, and All-ECC First Team pick, Pomerleau ended the season with 247 kills to go along with a team-high 87 blocks. The one-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week during the season had an ECC-best .402 hitting percentage, ranking 10th nationally. The middle blocker ranked fifth in the ECC in blocks per set (0.84) and had 13 matches with double-digits kills. The graduate student had a season-high seven blocks in the win over Queens on November 16th.
Prior to the National Championship Tournament beginning this week, ECC Player of the Year Roth remained 10th in the nation in attacks per set (11.68), 12th in kills per set (4.22), 19th in points per set (4.66), 23rd in total attacks (1,191), and 27th in total kills (430). The AVCA All-Region First Team and D2CCA All-Region First Team honoree has been an offensive powerhouse for the Lions all season long, totaling a league-leading 430 kills. She ranks ninth in the nation at 1,191 attacks and is in the top-15 in attacks per set (11.68, 10th), kills (12th), and kills per set (4.22, 14th). Roth reached double-digit kills in 23 of 26 contests, including 11 matches with 20 or more. A threat both offensively and defensively, Roth ranked fourth on her team in digs at 199 and totaled eight double-doubles on the campaign.
