Hanken Tjostheim, Mercy Quartet Selected to 2024 College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Teams

COLONIA, NJ – The 2024 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Men's Soccer Teams have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Four student-athletes - all from Mercy - represent the East Coast Conference. All eligible nominees earn the honor with a minimum of a 3.50 undergraduate or graduate GPA required.

For the second straight year, Mercy junior forward Johannes Hanken Tjostheim (3.93 GPA, Psychology) was selected onto the First Team. Hanken Tjostheim was voted the ECC's Offensive Player of the Year after leading the conference in goals per game (1.38) and points per game (3.13), both of which ranked second across NCAA Division II, and tying for the conference lead in total goals, with 22. Against ECC competition, the Mercy junior forward boasted an ECC-leading 30 points on 13 goals and four assists, both of which sat second in the conference ranks. On the year, he totaled 50 points on 22 goals and four assists.

A trio of Mercy starting defenders were also recognized, as junior Jorgen Krohn-Pettersen (4.0 GPA, Business Administration/Finance) made the Second Team and junior Mathias Schilbred-Eriksen (3.98 GPA, Finance & Data Analytics), and graduate student Benjamin Van Buren (3.89 GPA, Business Administration) earned spots on the Third Team. That ECC All-Conference trio blanked seven opponents this fall and anchored Mercy to rank 20th nationally in shutout percentage (.412) and 28th nationally in goals against average (ECC-leading 1.00).

The Division II first team had a 3.92 average GPA. Eleven total members have 4.00 GPAs, with five of those on the first team.

The Division II Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2024-25 Division II Academic All-America program.
