ECC Women's Basketball Report - Week Four

Player of the Week

Destiny Ryles, District of Columbia
Junior, Guard - Windsor Mill, Md.

Ryles averaged 14.5 points per game, 7.0 rebounds per game, 6.5 assists per game, and 6.0 steals per game in a 2-0 conference week for the Firebirds, shooting at 44.4% from the field. In UDC’s comeback 64-58 win over Queens, Ryles had 15 points, eight steals, seven rebounds, and five assists. Ryles also stacked the stat sheet in UDC’s 81-63 win over Molloy, with 14 points, eight assists, seven rebounds, and four steals. The UDC junior guard tops the conference and ranks third nationally in total assists (50) and total steals (30) for the UDC Firebirds, who now sit 8-0 on the year (2-0 ECC). 


Defensive Player of the Week

Tori Williams, District of Columbia
Junior | Guard/Forward | Fairfield, Ohio

Williams led the Firebirds to a 2-0 week, averaging 26.0 points per game and shooting at 70 percent (22-for-32) from the field. The UDC junior guard/forward also averaged 7.5 rebounds per game, 1.5 blocks per game, and 1.5 steals per game. In the win over Georgian Court, Williams led all scorers with 23 points while pulling down five rebounds and making two steals and two blocks. In the win over Southern Connecticut State, Williams turned in her first double-double of the season with a game-high 26 points and 10 rebounds. Williams tops the conference and ranks 18th nationally in total field goals made (55) 


Rookie of the Week

Nkiru Awaka, Queens
Freshman | Forward | Hyde Park, N.Y.

Awaka averaged a double-double with 12.5 points on 42.9% shooting and 10.0 rebounds to go with 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks over two games. The Hyde Park native began the week with nine points and eight rebounds to go with two blocks and one steal in the ECC opener against UDC on Wednesday evening. Awaka would conclude her week with third double-double of the year and first in conference play with a team-high 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting and 12 rebounds with one block and three steals against CSI on Saturday afternoon. 


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Sarah Ericson, St. Thomas Aquinas
Junior | Guard | Norwich, Conn.

Ericson recorded her first double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds against Mercy last week. The junior guard shot 50 percent from the floor (5-10), 50 percent from three (1-2) and a perfect 100 percent from the foul line (4-4). She also picked up five steals in the ECC contest.

Trinity Hudson, Molloy
Senior | Guard/Forward | Glen Cove, N.Y.

Hudson extended her double-double streak to four straight this week. The senior netted 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds against Staten Island and added 10 points and 12 rebounds against undefeated UDC. The Glen Cove, N.Y. native has collected 10 or more rebounds in all seven contests this season and brings her average to 12.4 per contest, good for second in the country.

Ashley Lambert, Staten Island
Senior | Guard | Staten Island, N.Y.

Lambert averaged 20.0 points per game in two CSI wins this week. On Wednesday, the Staten Island senior led the Dolphins with 18 points and connected on a go-ahead three with just over 30 seconds to go in the team's 73-71 overtime win against Molloy. On Saturday against Queens, she helped the Dolphins erase an early deficit with 22 second-half points as she set a new career scoring high in CSI’s 58-41 victory.  Across two games, she shot over 50% from the field and was 7-15 from three-point range.

Alahna Paige, Daemen
Senior | Guard | Rochester, N.Y.

Paige led the team with 24 points, going 7-of-19 from the field and banking 5-of-11 from beyond the arc along with all five free throws in Daemen's 81-58 win over Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday. Paige added five rebounds, two assists and two steals in the win, and played all but two minutes of the game on Saturday. 

Katie Wall, Mercy
Graduate Student | Guard | Wappingers Falls, N.Y.

Wall averaged a team-high 24.0 points with 8.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game as Mercy went 1-1 on the week. The Mercy graduate student opened the week with 20 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and two steals in Mercy's non-conference 66-50 win over Post on Wednesday. The guard ended the week with a game-high 28 points and a team-high 10 rebounds at St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday.
