Molloy's Historic Baseball Season Ends at NCAA East Super Regional

Hooksett, N.H. – The second-seeded Molloy baseball team fell to the top-seeded Southern New Hampshire Penmen, 12-10, Saturday afternoon at Penmen Field in game two of the NCAA East Super Regional. The Lions finish its historic season with an overall record of 42-14.

How it Happened
  • After a scoreless first inning, Southern New Hampshire cracked the scoreboard in the top of the second, following a two-run double by Dylan O'Sullivan to take a 2-0 lead.
  • Molloy answered right back in the bottom of the frame, scoring a pair of runs off of two RBI singles from sophomore Sean Welsh and freshman Joe Burriesci to knot the contest at two.
  • The Penmen retook the lead, 3-2, in the top of the third after Jorge Burgos drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
  • In the bottom of the third, the Lions exploded for a five-run inning to take a 7-3 lead. Senior Anthony Manisero singled to right field to score senior Chris Giardino and Welsh capped the inning with a grand slam over the center field fence, marking his third home run in two games.
  • The cardinal and white continued to stay hot at the plate in the fourth, senior Aidan Larkin lined a single into center field to bring home a pair of runs to open the largest lead of the afternoon, 9-3, after four innings of action.
  • In the top of the fifth, the Penmen cut the deficit to two, 9-7, after O'Sullivan hit a grand slam of his own into the left field bullpen.
  • Southern New Hampshire would knot the contest at nine in the top of the sixth inning after two runs scored off a double from Jake Pisano.
  • Two batters late, the Penmen jumped ahead, 11-9, following a two RBI single from Jake Risedorf.
  • In the bottom of the eighth, a run crossed the plate following a fielder's choice from junior JJ DeVito, to bring Molloy within one, 11-10, heading into the ninth.
  • In the top of the frame, Southern New Hampshire added an insurance run following a sacrifice fly to retake its two-run lead, 12-10.
  • Molloy would be retired in order in the bottom of the ninth as the Penmen would come out with the victory, 12-10.
Top Performances
  • Welsh collected two hits including a home run and drove in five runs.
  • Burriesci totaled three hits and one RBI.
  • Larkin knocked in two runs.
  • Manisero tallied two runs, two hits, and one RBI.
