Waltham, Mass. – Junior Charlie Imhof was the hero Friday afternoon, clinching a 1-0 victory for the second-seeded Molloy baseball team with a walk-off single to send the NCAA East Super Regional to Game Three over the top-seeded Bentley Falcons. The Lions improve to 42-11 on the season while the Falcons move to 43-15.
How it Happened
- The contest was an old fashioned pitcher's duel all afternoon, as Molloy starter redshirt junior Mike Knapp and Bentley starter Zach Eigenbrod matched one another pitch-for-pitch.
- After three innings that saw both teams combine for two hits, the Falcons threated with a runner in scoring position in the fourth. Knapp would scurry out of the jam ending the frame with a strikeout.
- Molloy generated a scoring chance with runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the sixth. Eigenbrod responded to get out of it unscathed with a fly out and inning ending strikeout.
- The Lions looked to score in the eighth. Following a leadoff single from freshman John Franco, senior Jeremy Taggart sacrificed the rookie the second with one out on the board. Once again, Eigenbrod would get out of it with a pair of ground outs to keep the game scoreless going into the ninth.
- In the top of the ninth, Bentley put a runner on first with one out following a single, but Knapp would not let it affect him getting out of the inning with a strikeout and fly out.
- In the bottom of the ninth, senior Sean Welsh drew a seven-pitch walk before swiping second to put himself in scoring position.
- Following a strikeout, Imhof stepped to the plate and drove a single up the middle to plate Welsh and clinch the victory, 1-0.
Top Performances
- Knapp tossed a complete game shut out tying a career-high 11 strikeouts to improve to 10-1.
