ECC Baseball Report - Week Nine

Co-Player of the Week

Joey Patane, Queens
Sophomore | Left Fielder | Commack, N.Y.

In a five-game week sophomore Joey Patane batted .500 with a SLG % of .650, and an OB % of .560 as he totaled 10 hits, three doubles, 10 RBI, two walks, and seven runs scored to go with three multi-hit games and a five-game hitting streak. The sophomore began the week recording a two-hit performance with a double, RBI, and two runs scored as Queens defeated New Haven on Wednesday afternoon.

In the 3-1 ECC series victory over CSI Patane batted .500, SLG % of .625, and OB % of .571 recording two three-multi-hit games with eight hits, two doubles, nine RBI, two walks, and five runs scored. In the Sunday DH sweep over CSI Patane notched six hits with a double, eight RBI, and three runs scored to help the Knights earn their third ECC series of the year. 


Co-Player of the Week

AJ Vigliotti, Staten Island
Junior | Catcher/First Base | Staten Island, N.Y.

Vigliotti hit .467 (7-15) this week with 11 RBI in four games.  He hit safely in all of those games with four home runs including a two home run, 5-RBI game against Queens on Saturday.  Vigliotti went on to end the weekend with home runs in back-to-back games on Sunday giving him five for the season.  The junior was also walked four times, twice intentionally, in the four games.  He continues to rank among the conference leaders in several offensive categories and is most notably fifth in OPS at 1.085.


Pitcher of the Week

Charlie Cucchiara, Molloy
Graduate Student | Pitcher | East Meadow, N.Y. 

Cucchiara tossed a complete game in Molloy's, 9-3, victory over Mercy on Friday. The right-hander pitched nine innings allowing three runs, two earned, on nine hits, and struck out eight to improve to 7-0 on the campaign.


Rookie of the Week

Michael Vilardi, Queens
Freshman | Outfielder/Pitcher | Massapequa, N.Y.

Vilardi batted .563 with a SLG % of .750, and an OB % of .632 as he recorded nine hits, three doubles, four RBI, three walks, and four runs scored to go with three three-hit performances. The freshman notched his first three-hit performance of his career in the 8-4 victory over New Haven Wednesday afternoon. In the 11-10 comeback victory over CSI Vilardi recorded his second straight three-hit performance with a double, two RBI, and one run scored including driving home the winning run as Queens rallied from a 10-9 deficit Saturday afternoon. In the series-clinching game Sunday, Vilardi recorded his third three-hit game of the week as he went 3-4 at the plate with a career-best two doubles, three runs scored, two walks, and two RBI as Queens earned an 18-6 game-four series victory. 


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Jaden Caballero, Mercy
Junior | Outfield | Newburgh, N.Y.

Caballero hit .476 (10-for-21) with a team-high seven runs to go with two RBI, four doubles, a home run and a triple in five games this week. The junior opened the week going 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, recording his 100th career run scored, in Mercy's win over Saint Rose on Tuesday. The outfielder then went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs and an RBI at Molloy on Friday. Caballero went 2-for-5 with a run in game one against Molloy on Saturday and ended the week going 3-for-4 with a run at Molloy on Sunday. 

JJ DeVito, Molloy
Junior | Outfield | Wantagh, N.Y.

DeVito was a catalyst as the table setter atop the Lions lineup in a 4-1 week. The junior collected three multi-hit games in five games played and extended his hitting streak to nine games. The Wantagh native collected three straight multi-rbi games against Mercy and two games of scoring two or more runs, including hitting a home run in both games of a doubleheader on Saturday against the Mavericks. To cap the week, DeVito hit .474 (9-for-19), slugged .789, drove in seven runs, scored seven times, drew three walks, and homered twice while getting on base at a .583 clip.

Jeremy Glinski, D’Youville
Graduate Student | Catcher | Sloan, N.Y.

Glinski went 5-for-14 with two home runs, seven RBI, two walks, and six runs scored over the course of four games and reached base safely in all four games. Glinski hit two home runs and drove in six runs, including the go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh inning of DYU's 11-7 win over St. Thomas Aquinas on Sunday.

Chris Polemeni, Staten Island
Sophomore | Outfielder/Pitcher | Staten Island, N.Y.

Polemeni hit .379 (7-18) with seven RBI and three runs scored.  In his biggest at-bat of the week, the sophomore delivered a go-ahead grand slam on Saturday against Queens, his fourth home run of the season.  He also stole four bases and ranks among the conference leaders with 21 steals on the season.

Riley Williams, Mercy
Sophomore | Pitcher |  Nantucket, Mass.

Williams pitched a team-high 8.2 innings in two appearances with a 2.08 ERA, one save and seven strikeouts. The sophomore opened the week with 2.2 scoreless innings of relief pitched with two strikeouts to earn the save in Mercy's win over Saint Rose on Tuesday. Williams ended the week with six innings pitched and just two runs allowed and five strikeouts to earn a no-decision against No. 16 Molloy on Sunday. 

Matt Yip, Molloy
Senior | Catcher | Williston Park, N.Y.

Yip continued to provide power in the heart of the Molloy lineup. The senior extended his hitting streak to 14 games this week, putting together three games of multi-run scoring games and a pair of multi-RBI games in four wins. On the week, Yip hit .400 (6-for-15), while slugging 1.067, scoring seven times, driving in six runs, walked five times, and belting two home runs while reaching base at a .591 pace.
