Central Islip, N.Y. - Dowling College has been
crowned the winner of the 2008-09 East Coast Conference (ECC)
Commissioner's Cup. Under the direction of Director of Athletics
Rick Cole, Jr., the Golden Lions amassed 103.5 total points, edging
the defending Commissioner's Cup winner Adelphi by 6.5
points. This marks the second time Dowling has won the award
since the Cup was established in 1994.
Dowling was powered by ECC regular season titles in men's
soccer, softball and volleyball. The Golden Lions competed in
all eleven ECC Championships with baseball, women's basketball,
men's soccer and volleyball contending in title games.
The volleyball team was the only Dowling squad to clinch an ECC
tournament championship.
Adelphi claimed four titles this season to earn a second place
finished. The Panthers swept the cross country championships
while also capturing titles in baseball and women's lacrosse.
Additionally, the men's basketball, women's soccer, men's tennis
and women's volleyball programs finished in the top three.
C.W. Post took third overall with 83.25 points. The Pioneers
captured ECC regular season and tournament championships in women's
soccer and men's basketball along with a softball post-season title
and a men's lacrosse title.
Molloy College placed fourth overall with 75 total points, while
Queens rounded out the top five with 70 points.
