SPARKILL, NY – St. Thomas Aquinas junior centerfielder Eliana Raposo (Wareham, MA) repeated as the ECC Player of the Year to headline the East Coast Conference Softball All-Conference awards, which were announced on Thursday afternoon at Spartan Field on STAC’s campus in Sparkill, NY. Mercy senior left-handed pitcher Skylar Brandemarte (Poughkeepsie, NY) and St. Thomas Aquinas graduate student left-handed pitcher Sarah Clancy (Chino Hills, CA) were tabbed Co-Pitchers of the Year while STAC freshman designated player Sofia Marella (Cranston, RI) earned Rookie of the Year accolades. Spartans’ head coach Kristen Sullivan repeated as Coach of the Year for the fourth year in a row as all voting was completed by the league’s six head coaches.
Raposo batted a conference-leading .408 this spring, also topping the ECC in slugging percentage (.741), hits (60), runs scored (48), and home runs (12). She also ranked second in runs batted in (42), fourth in stolen bases (17), and fifth in doubles (13). In conference play only, Raposo slugged at a clip of .723 and boasted a .354 batting average with an ECC-leading seven home runs and 23 runs scored to go with 24 runs batted in and 23 hits. Raposo also sported an unblemished 1.000 fielding percentage, making 69 putouts and six assists without an error in centerfield.
In her first season in the conference after transferring in from Stonehill, Brandemarte topped the ECC with a 1.53 earned run average, going 12-7 overall (7-3 ECC) with just 30 earned runs and 86 strikeouts in 137.2 innings pitched. The Mercy lefty held opponents to a .247 batting average, the lower among ECC pitchers. Across 20 ECC games, Brandemarte posted a 1.90 ERA, allowing just 19 earned runs in a conference-leading 70.0 innings pitch while also earning a pair of saves.
Clancy went 15-9 overall (9-2 ECC) with a 3.18 earned run average and an ECC-leading 100 strikeouts in 147.2 innings pitched. Among ECC competition, the three-time ECC Pitcher of the Week posted a conference-leading 1.73 ERA and topped the ECC in opponent batting average (.213), wins (nine), and fewest earned runs allowed (17).
Marella topped the ECC in runs batted in with 47 and ranked second in home runs with 10 and walks with 23, which led all ECC Rookies. The STAC freshman designated player also posted a .453 on base percentage, a .358 batting average, and 44 hits, all of which ranked in the ECC’s top ten. The two-time ECC Rookie of the Week fared even better in conference play, leading all rookies in batting average (.393), slugging percentage (.714), on base percentage (.493), runs batted in (29), home runs (six), and walks (12).
St. Thomas Aquinas’ Sullivan was named Coach of the Year by her peers for the fourth straight year. Under Sullivan’s guidance, the Spartans earned their fourth straight ECC Regular Season Championship with a 16-4 record in conference play (28-17 overall) and the No. 1 seed for this weekend’s ECC Softball Championship.
