ECC Baseball Report - Week Nine

Player of the Week

Chris Polemeni, Staten Island
Sophomore | OF | Staten Island, NY

Polemeni continues to close in on the CSI single-season home runs record with three more in four games this week. The sophomore hit .619 (13-for-21) with a 1.286 slugging percentage, scoring seven runs and driving in seven. In addition to his three home runs, he had three doubles and a triple. Polemeni also stole three bases and posted a .636 on-base percentage as the Dolphins continued their push for their first-ever Division II playoff berth.


Co-Pitchers of the Week

Billy Morris, D’Youville
Junior | INF/RHP | Lancaster, NY

Morris threw a gem for the Saints on Saturday, going the distance for his third complete game of the season. The DYU junior struck out a season-high eight batters and allowed just one earned run on seven hits and two walks in the full nine innings in D'Youville's 7-1 win over Queens. With the game tied 1-1 in the top of the eighth, Morris singled to left field and eventually scored in the midst of that game-changing, six-run inning. 

Peter Nenadich III, Queens
Sophomore | RHP | Bayside, NY

In two ECC starts, Nenadich III would put together a career week as he notched 11.2 innings of work allowing seven hits, two earned runs, and two walks while striking out 12 batters as he posted a 1-0 week to finish with an ERA of 1.54. In the 4-3 victory over Molloy, the Bayside native went 5.2 innings pitched allowing five hits, one earned run, and one walk while striking out a career-best nine batters as Queens earned a series split. Making his second start of the week Saturday afternoon, Nenadich III would tie a season-best 6.0 innings of work as he limited the Saints to two hits, one earned run, and one walk to go with three strikeouts. In total, the sophomore faced 46 batters as he held them to a combined batting average of .159 over the two outings.


Rookie of the Week

Jack Kehoe, Staten Island
Freshman | OF | Staten Island, NY

Kehoe had five hits, including a double, scored six times, and drove in two RBI on the week. He also scored nine runs and appeared in one relief appearance out of the bullpen, allowing one earned run in 2.1 innings. 


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Alec Boucher, D’Youville
Senior | INF | Essex, Ontario

Boucher went 6-for-18 at the plate this weekend with a home run, a double, five runs scored, and eight RBI, driving in a run in all four games against Queens. In Thursday's 20-12 win, he went 3-for-6 with a grand slam and five RBI. He posted another multi-hit performance in game two of their doubleheader on Friday, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Joseph Gonzalez, Mercy
Senior | SS | Monroe, NY

Gonzalez hit .667 (6-for-9) with three runs, four RBI, one double and two stolen bases as Mercy went 2-1 on the week. The shortstop opened the week going 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs in the win over Lincoln on Friday. The senior then went 4-for-4 with a run and an RBI in the game two win over Lincoln on Saturday, recording his 100th career run scored. 

Andre Jenkins, Mercy
Freshman | P | Chester, NY

Jenkins pitched 6.0 shutout innings with a career-high eight strikeouts and just four hits allowed to earn the win over Lincoln on Friday. 

Mihir Manerikar, D’Youville
Sophomore | RHP | Mississauga, Ontario

Manerikar was lights out for the Saints on Thursday, throwing four scoreless innings and striking out three while allowing just three hits and two walks in his first outing since March 10th.

John Nisco, Mercy
Junior | OF | Tarrytown, NY

Nisco hit .500 (5-for-10) with a team-high two home runs, 10 RBI and six runs to go with two doubles as Mercy went 2-1 on the week. The junior opened the week going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs in the win at Lincoln on Friday. The outfielder then went 1-for-4 with two RBI and two runs in the game one win over Lincoln on Saturday. Nisco ended the week going 2-for-3 with two home runs and five RBI in game two at Lincoln on Saturday. 

Nate Rodriguez, Queens
Senior | LHP | Hamilton, NJ

Rodriguez played a huge part in the Knights’ three ECC victories against Molloy and D’Youville. In seven innings of work over three relief appearances, Rodriguez allowed nine hits, two earned runs, and four walks while striking out nine batters as he recorded a win and two saves to finish with an ERA of 2.57. The southpaw began the week recording a save in 3.1 inning of work against Molloy allowing two hits, one walk, and struck out four batters as the Knights earned a 4-3 victory and a 2-2 series split. In the Friday doubleheader sweep over D’Youville Rodriguez made two relief appearances earning a win and a save. In a 9-5 game two victory, the senior went 2.0 innings allowing three hits, two earned runs, and one walk, and struck out two batters as Queens evened the series. In the nightcap, he would make his second appearance of the day to earn his second save of the week in 1.2 innings of work allowing four hits, two walks, and three strikeouts as Queens completed the doubleheader sweep to the final score of 8-6.

Penn Sealey, Queens
Graduate Student | 3B | Raleigh, NC

In an ECC 3-2 week for the Knights, Sealey recorded a batting average of .409 with a SLG % of .682 and OB % of .435 as he totaled a team-high nine hits with three doubles, one home run, three RBI, five runs scored, and earned one walk. The North Carolina native recorded four multi-hit games as he totaled a hit in all five games started. The senior began the week recording a 2-4 AB day with a double, and a home run as Queens earned a 4-3 victory over ECC-leading Molloy. In the 2-2 series against D’Youville, Sealey recorded three multi-hit games and four runs scored. In the Friday sweep the senior would also make his start of the year as he recorded three solid innings of work allowing one hit, one run scored, and struck out three before the Knights rallied to earn an 8-6 victory. 

Mike Vilardi, Queens
Sophomore | UTL | Massapequa, NY

Playing in four ECC games for the Knights, Vilardi recorded a batting average of .417 with a SLG % of .500 and OB % of .529 as he totaled five hits, one double, six RBI, five runs scored, four walks, and one stolen base. The Massapequa native recorded an RBI in all four games played including notching two multi-RBI games in the Friday doubleheader sweep over D’Youville. In the Friday sweep Vilardi went 4-7 at the plate recording a double, four RBI, four runs scored, and earned two walks.
