ECC Men's Basketball Report - Week 14

Co-Players of the Week

Benjamin Bill, Daemen
Redshirt Sophomore | C | Hamburg, NY

Bill notched back-to-back double-doubles and averaged 18.5 points and 12.5 rebounds over two conference wins. The Daemen redshirt sophomore center posted 18 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, and a steal against Molloy to help clinch the ECC Regular Season Championship for the Wildcats and followed up with 19 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, and three blocks against Queens. No. 2/3 Daemen stands at 23-0 overall and 14-0 in league play as the only remaining undefeated team across NCAA Division II. 

Rob Matos, Molloy
Sophomore | G | Fredericksburg, VA

Matos averaged a staggering 31.0 points per game last week for the Lions, shooting at a clip of 53.0 percent from the field to go with six rebounds and four assists. The Molloy sophomore poured in a career-high 46 points against D’Youville and accounted for over 50 percent of Molloy’s offense.


Defensive Player of the Week

Shedrach Makanjuola, Mercy
Sophomore | F | Boston, MA

Makanjuola averaged 12.5 points per game on 53.3 percent shooting with 5.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and a team-high 2.5 blocks per game as Mercy went 2-0 on the week. The sophomore opened the week with 11 points, six rebounds, one block and three steals in the win at Staten Island on Wednesday, adding the game-winning basket at the buzzer. Makanjuola ended the week with 14 points, four rebounds and a game-high four blocks in the win at UDC on Saturday. 


Rookie of the Week

Ethan Robertson, Mercy
Freshman | F | Boston, MA

Robertson averaged a team-high 25.0 points per game on 54.5 percent shooting with 4.0 rebounds per game as Mercy went 2-0 on the week. The freshman opened the week with a career-high and game-high 32 points on 12-of-20 shooting with two rebounds in the 79-77 win at Staten Island on Wednesday. The forward ended the week with a team-high 18 points to go with six rebounds in the 64-59 win at UDC on Saturday. 


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Nasan Ayala, Queens
Senior | G | Lefrak City, NY

Ayala averaged 17.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.0 steals in the Knights Western New York trip. Ayala began the weekend trip recording his second double-double of the year with 18 points and a career-best 15 rebounds to go with two assists against D’Youville Friday evening. The senior concluded the trip with 16 points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals against No. 2/3 Daemen on Sunday afternoon.

Taj Chiles, Mercy
Senior | G | Harlem, NY

Chiles averaged a team-high 13.5 assists per game with 2.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game as Mercy went 2-0 on the week. The senior opened the week with a career-high 15 assists to go along with two points in the win at Staten Island on Wednesday. The guard ended the week with 12 assists and two points in the win at UDC on Saturday. 

Tevin Curtis, District of Columbia
Senior | G | Baltimore, MD

Curtis averaged 15.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game on the week. In the game against STAC, Curtis posted a game-high 23 points, five rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block. In the game against Mercy, he posted eight points, eight rebounds, and five assists.

Hartnel Haye, St. Thomas Aquinas
Graduate Student | G/F | Camden, NJ

Haye averaged 15.0 points and 9.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game over two contests last week. The STAC grad student guard/forward recorded 14 points, eight rebounds and four assists in 20 minutes in a 92-71 triumph over UDC, then tallied 16 points, 10 rebounds and an assist in 31 minutes in a 94-83 win against CSI. Haye shot 69.0 percent (11-of-16) from the field, and 80.0 percent (8-of-10) from the charity stripe.

Charles Holley, Jr., District of Columbia
Sophomore | Newport News, VA

Holley, Jr averaged 18.0 points per game, shooting 45.5 percent from the field and 41.0 percent from beyond the arc. The UDC sophomore scored 19 pints against STAC and 18 points (4-of-8 3FG) against Mercy.

TJ Holloway, Mercy
Junior | G | Stratford, CT

Holloway averaged 14.5 points per game with 3.5 rebounds per game as Mercy went 2-0 on the week. The junior opened the week with 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor and 5-of-6 shooting from downtown with four rebounds in the win at Staten Island on Wednesday. The guard ended the week with eight points and three rebounds in the win at UDC on Saturday. 

Derrick James, St. Thomas Aquinas
Junior | G | Columbus, OH

James averaged 16.5 points and 2.5 rebounds, 7.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per game over two contests last week. The STAC junior guard recorded 16 points, four rebounds, seven assists, and three steals in 26 minutes in a 92-71 triumph over UDC, then tallied 17 points, one rebound, seven assists, and a steal in 31 minutes in a 94-83 win against CSI. James shot 50.0 percent (10-of-20) from the field and 92.3 percent (12-of-13) from the charity stripe.

Justin Moore, D’Youville
Redshirt Junior | G | Oxford, AL

Moore helped the Saints go 2-0 on the week, averaging 20.5 points per game as he shot 51.7 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the three-point line.

Luis Risquez, St. Thomas Aquinas
Senior | F | Barcelona, Venezuela

Risquez averaged 14.0 points and 7.0 rebounds, 1.0 assist, 1.0 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game over two contests last week. The STAC senior forward recorded 15 points, seven rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block in 24 minutes in a 92-71 triumph over UDC, then tallied 13 points, seven rebounds, a steal and a block in 21 minutes in a 94-83 win against CSI. Risquez shot 53.0 percent (10-of-19) from the field, 67.0 percent (2-of-3) from beyond the arc and 86.0 percent (6-of-7) from the charity stripe.
