Queen's Women’s Basketball's Nkiru Awaka Earns MBWA DII/III Player of the Week Honors

NEW YORK, N.Y. – On Tuesday, December 16, Met Basketball Writers Associations announced that Queens College women's basketball junior forward Nkiru Awaka (Hyde Park, N.Y.) has been named DII/III Player of the Week.
 
On Monday, Awaka was named East Coast Conference CO-Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week. 

For the second time in her career Awaka has been named MET Player of the Week. Also it is the second straight week an ECC student-athlete has earned MET Player of the Week. 
 
In a 2-0 week for the Knights, Awaka led the way, averaging a double-double with 19.0 PPG on 69.6% shooting, 17.5 RPG, 2.5 APG, 2.0 BPG, and 2.0 SPG. In the victory over SNHU, Awaka posted 20 points (9-12 FG), 19 rebounds (11 offensive, 8 defensive), three blocks, three assists, and one steal. To close out the week, the Hyde Park native recorded 18 points (7-11 FG), 16 rebounds, three steals, two assists, and one block in the ECC victory over Roberts Wesleyan.
