ECC Ranks Third Among NCAA Division II Conferences in Academic Success Rate

COLONIA, N.J. – The East Coast Conference recorded an average Academic Success Rate (ASR) of 85 percent, according to the most recent NCAA Division II ASR data released by the NCAA earlier this week.

The 85 percent placed the ECC third among its 24 Division II counterparts.

Overall, ECC member institutions produced a total of 1,778 graduates among 2,094 student-athletes who enrolled during the four-year period of 2015-18.

Sports that posted a 90% ASR or better include men's golf, field hockey, women's lacrosse, softball, women's swimming, women's tennis, and women's volleyball.

The NCAA annually releases the Division II ASR, a model developed 20 years ago at the request of presidents of Division II institutions to overcome inadequacies with the Federal Graduation Rate (FGR). The report gives graduation information for students and student-athletes who entered college in 2018, the most recent class for which the required six years of information is available.

It also breaks down the ASR by sport, using a four-year class average (2015-18) called a cohort rate to provide a big enough sample. The ASR formula removes from the rate student-athletes who leave school while academically eligible and includes student-athletes who transfer to a school after initially enrolling elsewhere.
