WEST BABYLON, N.Y. – Molloy senior right fielder Anthony Manisero (Staten Island, N.Y.) was voted the ECC Player of the Year to headline to headline the East Coast Conference Baseball All-Conference awards, which were announced on Wednesday afternoon ahead of the 2024 ECC Baseball Championship, set to begin on Thursday. Molloy graduate student right-handed pitcher Charlie Cucchiara (East Meadow, N.Y.) was named the Pitcher of the Year while Mercy freshman utility player Nevin Scaperotti (Stormville, N.Y.) earned Rookie of the Year recognition. D’Youville head coach Kyle McLain was tabbed the Coach of the Year by his peers, as all voting was completed by the league’s seven head coaches.
Manisero led the conference in slugging percentage (.712) and runs batted in (52), ranked second in batting average (.439) and OPS (1.189), and sat third in hits (61). The Player of the Year also ranked in the ECC’s top ten in doubles (5th - 12), on base percentage (6th, .477), home runs (T-6th - 8), and runs scored (8th - 42). A threat on the bases, Manisero swiped 18 bags during the regular season, good for fourth among all ECC baserunners. The Molloy senior also turned in an unblemished 1.000 fielding percentage, not committing an error with 83 putouts and three assists in right field.
Cucchiara earns the Pitcher of the Year honor after compiling a 9-1 record to go along with a 3.24 earned run average, third-best in the ECC, over a league-leading 75.0 innings. His win total tied for the best in the conference and ranks 15th nationally while he also ranked second in strikeouts (65) and strikeouts looking (23), third in opposing batting average (.238), fourth in fewest runs allowed (32), and in the top 10 in fewest earned runs allowed (27), fewest walks allowed (17), fewest triples allowed (2), and fewest home runs allowed (4).
Scaperotti takes home top rookie honors after starring on the mound and at the plate in his first collegiate season. The Mercy freshman ranked third in the ECC in innings pitched (67.2), fourth in opposing batting average (.241), seventh in strikeouts looking (15), eighth in wins (5) and ERA (4.52), and ninth in strikeouts (52). At the plate, Scaperotti finished fifth in the ECC in batting average (.382) and 10th in on base percentage (.425).
Wrapping up the top honors is D’Youville’s Kyle McLain, who has been selected as the ECC Coach of the Year by his peers. McLain earns the award after leading the Saints to a 29-18 record and a share of the ECC Regular-Season Championship after compiling a mark of an 18-6 during league play in DYU’s first season eligible for postseason competition.
