SACRAMENTO, CA – D’Youville junior Lainie Smith, who had earned an at-large bid following a breakthrough performance at the NCAA Division II East Region Women's Cross Country Championship, led all ECC runners with a 172nd-place finish at the 2024 NCAA Division II Women’s Cross Country Championship, held at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex on Saturday afternoon.

The ECC’s two qualifying squads - Roberts Wesleyan and Daemen - finished 31st and 34th, respectively. The Redhawks made their 10 consecutive appearance at nationals while the ‘Cats made their second in program history and first since 2022.
Smith crossed the 6k finish line in 22:56.0 to finish as the second-fastest runner out of the East Region, behind Bentley’s Caitlin Burmester (101st, 22:10.7).
Roberts Wesleyan junior Rachel Horner-Richardson (174th, 22:56.8), senior Kylee Odell (178th, 23:00.4), and junior Lydia Roselund (198th, 23:21.2) finished next as RWU’s top three runners before Daemen graduate students Camryn Bailey (199th, 23:24.7) and Courtney Merrill (211th, 23:37.3) crossed for the Wildcats.
ECC Rookie of the Year Paige Reeser finished next for Roberts Wesleyan (217th, 23:46.5) before a slew of veteran Wildcats crossed in senior Emma Cain (239th, 24:37.3) and juniors Patsy Oberholzer (247th, 25:01.3), Christa Oakes (248th, 25:05.2), and Grzebinski (249th, 25:10.5).
Roberts Wesleyan junior Gianna Tribotte (250th, 25:12.1), Daemen freshman Lia Brasacchio (253rd, 25:17.1), and Roberts Wesleyan freshman Kennedy Mitchell (256th, 26:06.9) followed suite.
