ECC Men's Basketball Report - Week Seven

Player of the Week

Justin Hemphill, Daemen
Senior | Forward | Buffalo, N.Y.

Hemphill recorded back-to-back double-doubles and averaged 19.0 points, 14.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 3.0 blocks and 2.0 steals per game over a pair of wins over Franklin Pierce, 93-73, and Saint Anselm, 112-109 (2OT) over the holiday break. The Daemen senior posted 11 points, 13 boards, five assists and three blocks against FPU and dropped a career-high 27 points (11-of-22 FG) and a career-high 16 rebounds to go along with three assists, three blocks, and four steals in a career-high 42 minutes played in Daemen’s double overtime road win over Saint Anselm. Hemphill shot 52 percent (16-for-31 FG) in the victories.


Defensive Player of the Week

Rookie of the Week

Rob Matos, Molloy
Freshman | Guard | Fredericksburg, Va.

Matos averaged 24.0 points per game over the holiday break, which included 30 of Molloy's 72 points against Southern Connecticut State after recording 18 points and eight assists in the 81-71 win over Chestnut Hill. In the pair of games, the freshman shot 45 percent from the field and went 26-of-27 from the foul line. Matos ties for third in the ECC in points per game (18.5). 


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Sunnie Diamond, Queens
Senior | Guard | Atlanta, Ga.

In the Knights’ lone game against regionally-ranked #4 St. Michael's College Saturday afternoon, Diamond tallied a game-high 26 points on 56.3% shooting, going 9-of-16 from the field with a season-best five made three-pointers on six attempts alongside four rebounds, five assists, two steals, and one block.

Justin Glover, Daemen
Sophomore | Guard | Buffalo, N.Y.

Glover shot 56 percent (15-of-27) from the field, made 6-of-11 three-pointers, and totaled 12 assists vs. just two turnovers while averaging 19.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game during Daemen’s wins over Franklin Pierce, 93-73, and Saint Anselm, 112-109 (2OT). The Daemen sophomore scored a career-high 20 points in the victory over FPU and totaled 18 points and a career-high eight assists in the double overtime win at Saint Anselm; Glover hit the game-tying three-pointer with five seconds left in regulation to force OT.

Messiah Mallory, Staten Island
Junior | Forward | Watervliet, N.Y.

Mallory led the Dolphins to a win over The College of Saint Rose on Thursday with 21 points, five rebounds, and three blocks. The CSI junior connected on 4-of-6 three-point attempts, was perfect from the free-throw line, and grabbed five rebounds. Less than 48 hours later against the University of New Haven, Mallory delivered another 20-point scoring effort to go along with 12 rebounds. Mallory shot 3-of-6 from beyond the arc to finish the week 7-of-12 from distance and was once again perfect from the free-throw line.

Andrew Mason, Daemen
Senior | Guard | Webster, N.Y.

Mason shot 68-percent (13-of-19) from the field and made 11-of-14 three-pointers while averaging 19.0 points and 3.0 assists per game Daemen’s wins over Franklin Pierce, 93-73, and Saint Anselm, 112-109 (2OT). The senior set Daemen's NCAA-era (2015-present) record for three-pointers in a game (eight) and scored a career-high 26 points in the win over FPU before totaling 12 points in the double overtime win at Saint Anselm.

Trayton Trice, D’Youville
Junior | Forward | Romeoville, Ill.

Trice helped the Saints go 1-1 on the week, averaging 22.5 points per game on 16-of-25 shooting from the field (64%), 6-for-9 shooting from three-point range (66.7%), and 8.5 rebounds per game. The D’Youville junior went for a career-high 27 points against Notre Dame College this past Saturday.
