ECC Men's Basketball Report - Week Three

Player of the Week

James Patterson, St. Thomas Aquinas
Sophomore | Guard/Forward | Richmond, Va.

Patterson averaged 20.0 points per game and 9.3 rebounds per game as the Spartans went a perfect 3-0 last week, with victories over Caldwell, Indiana (Pa.), and Pitt-Johnstown. The sophomore guard/forward recorded a double-double (18 points and 10 rebounds) against the Cougars, a 30-point, eight-rebound effort over the Crimson Hawks, and another double-double (12 points and 10 rebounds) against the Mountain Cats.


Defensive Player of the Week

Justin Hemphill, Daemen
Senior | Forward | Buffalo, N.Y.

Hemphill was part of a Daemen defense that limited its two opponents to 69 points per game, collected 29 steals, and forced 42 turnovers. The Wildcats senior made his first two starts of the season and shot 75-percent (15-20) from the field, averaging 17.5 points and 7.5 rebounds. Hemphill also collected seven steals over the two games, recorded his second double-double of the season against Clarion with 13 points and 11 rebounds (seven defensive), and registered a career-high six steals.


Rookie of the Week

Aaron Goldstein, Staten Island
Freshman | Guard | Staten Island, N.Y.
Goldstein averaged 12.5 points and led all nominated rookies with 5.5 rebounds (10 defensive), 4.0 assists, and 1.0 steals per game in a 1-1 week for Staten Island in match-ups with Georgian Court and Bentley. The CSI freshman guard shot nearly 42 percent from the field and 33 percent from three-point range.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Jamal Barnes, St. Thomas Aquinas
Senior | Guard | Temple Hills, Md.

Barnes averaged 14.7 points and 2.3 rebounds in the Spartans three-game sweep of Caldwell, Indiana (Pa.) and Pitt-Johnstown.

Dylan Fasoyiro, Daemen
Senior | Guard | Houston, Texas

Fasoyrio shot 50-percent (13-for-26) from the field and averaged 20.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals in a 2-0 week. The Daemen senior guard scored 23 points and collected a career-high six steals in a win over Slippery Rock and added 17 points in a win over Clarion.

Rob Matos, Molloy
Freshman | Guard | Fredericksburg, Va.

Matos led the Lions with 22 points in Molloy's victory over Holy Family last week, going 3-for-3 from long distance and 9-for-11 from the foul line. The freshman also added six boards and four assists against the Tigers and added another 10 points the next day against Wilmington to average 16.0 points per game for the week. 

Ethan Millirons, St. Thomas Aquinas
Sophomore | Guard | Riner, Va.

Millirons averaged 14.0 points and 1.3 rebounds in the Spartans’ three-game sweep of Caldwell, Indiana (Pa.) and Pitt-Johnstown last week. He also shot 77.8 percent from the field (14-18), 76.9 percent from three (10-13) and 100.0 percent from the foul line (4-4).

Rich Smith, St. Thomas Aquinas
Sophomore | Guard | Bronx, N.Y.

Smith averaged 8.0 points per game and 5.3 assists per game to go with 12 rebounds, one block, and seven steals in a 3-0 week for St. Thomas Aquinas. The Spartans sophomore guard recorded six rebounds and three steals against Caldwell, a five-rebound, three-steal, and one-block effort over IUP, and one rebound and one steal against Pitt-Johnstown.
