Daemen and Mercy Duos Headline ECC Volleyball All-Conference Honorees
WEST BABYLON, N.Y. – On Thursday morning, the East Coast Conference announced its women’s volleyball All-Conference selections. Mercy’s Larissa Schneid (São Paulo, Brazil) leads the way as the ECC Player of the Year. Schneid’s teammate Yarianne Gonzalez (Manati, Puerto Rico), as well as Daemen standouts Jasmine Brundage (East Aurora, N.Y.) and Charlotte Koerber (Munich, Germany) also earned top honors.
Schneid, now a three-time All-ECC First Team honoree, takes home the first major honor of her career as the league’s Player of the Year. Schneid helped the Mavericks to a 14-7 record by ranking second in the conference with 4.26 points per set and 3.78 kills per set. Her total of 276 kills also ranked fifth. Schneid showcased an all-around game by adding 216 digs (2.96 per set), 23 service aces, and 20 total blocks.
After sharing the Setter of the Year award in 2022, Gonzalez is the lone recipient this season. She paces the ECC with 9.94 assists per set, more than half an assist per set more than the league’s runner-up. Overall, Gonzalez has tallied 666 assists and has also contributed 26 service aces and 135 digs on the year.
Like Gonzalez, Brundage claims a top honor for the second time in her career after being named the Libero of the Year, an honor she previously won in 2021. This season, Brundage leads the league with 441 digs, nearly 100 more than the runner-up. She also tops the ECC and ranks 33rd in all of Division II with 5.01 digs per set.
Koerber, an eight-time ECC weekly honoree (two-time Player of the Week, six-time Rookie of the Week) is the conference’s top newcomer after being selected as the Rookie of the Year. The freshman outside hitter’s name is all over the league’s leaderboard as she ranks second in aces (40), third in aces per set (0.49) and points per set (4.17), fourth in kills (287) and kills per set (3.54), and sixth in hitting percentage (.262).
Molloy’s Brian Smith earned the ECC Coach of the Year award in a vote by his peers. After a slow start to the year with a 2-7 record, Smith led a turnaround that saw the Lions finish the season with a 13-13 overall mark and an 8-4 record in the ECC to earn the No. 2 seed in the conference’s championship tournament. Smith has also guided the Lions to the No. 10 spot in the latest NCAA East Region Rankings.
