
Men's Athlete of the Week
Evans Kegan, NYIT (So., El Doret, Kenya) -
Capped his stellar season by finishing in eighth place out of 167
of the top NCAA Division II collegiate cross country runners, with
a time of 30:30 at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships
in Joplin, Mo. With the eighth place finish, Kigen becomes the
first men's cross country runner in NYIT history to earn
All-American honors.
Women's Athlete of the Week
Ify Anene, Adelphi (Jr., Reynoldsburg, Ohio / Reynoldsburg) - Placed 79 (of 189) at the NCAA National Championships, covering the 6K course in 22:33.5. Anene's time made her just the fourth finisher from the Northeast Region and is 33 seconds faster than her previous best at that distance.
ECC Notebook
Adelphi: Junior Ify Anene traveled to Joplin, Missouri to compete in the NCAA Cross Country Division II National Championship meet on November 17, hosted by Missouri Southern State University. This was Anene's first appearance at the Division II National Championship meet. During the 2007 campaign Anene captured two individual titles, winning the NYU Invitational and the East Coast Conference Championship meet. She was named the ECC Runner of the Year and earned All-Northeast Region honors after placing fourth at the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional. Anene is also the first female runner to qualify for Nationals as an individual.
NYIT: In a hallmark season for the cross country program, Evans Kigen led the Bears to their first East Coast Conference team championship, a fourth place finish in the regional rankings, their highest in the history of the program, all while earning NCAA Northeast Region Runner of the Year. Kigen was also the first NYIT cross country runner to win the ECC individual championship.
