Barbara Green, Adelphi (Fr., Levittown, N.Y.) - Was the top rookie finisher finishing ninth overall with a time of 21:19 at the ECC Championships at Van Cortlandt Park. Her placement automatically earned her ECC Rookie of the Year and First Team All Conference honors.

The Adelphi women garnered a race low 31 points in placing five runners in the top 10 to capture their second straight 2007 East Coast Conference title Sunday morning at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y. ... The team title was the Panthers' fifth overall, having also won the championship in 2006, 2002, 2001, and 2000. Adelphi edged runner up New Haven, which posted 63 points, and third place NYIT which posted 73 points ... Individual champion and ECC Runner of the Year Ify Anene took home top honors in the women's race for the Panthers, capturing the 5k course in 19:21, edging out runner up Melissa Tempesta of New Haven, who finished in 20:12 ... Along with Anene and Tempesta, Danielle Connor of Adelphi, Alissa Von Schmidt of New Haven, Krista Villoman of NYIT, Kristen Sweeney of C.W. Post and Priscah Kirop of NYIT rounded out the top seven finishers to earn First Team All Conference accolades, respectively ... The ECC All Conference Second Team, which included the 8th through 14th place finishers, was a clean sweep for Adelphi. Finishing eighth through 14th were Jennifer Malenovsky, Barbara Green, Meghan Farrell, Jenilee Fuentes, Melissa Coelho, Heather Troutman, and Danielle Matteo, respectively ... Green took Rookie of the Year honors as the top finishing newcomer, placing ninth overall in 21:20 ... Adelphi's Adam Siepiola was named Coach of the Year in guiding the Panthers to the title ... In last week's Northeast top 10 regional rankings (10/16) Adelphi was No. 5, NYIT was No. 6 and New Haven was No. 7.

The NYIT men captured its first East Coast Conference championship with a low score of 30 points. NYIT placed four runners in the top seven and five in the top 12 for 30 points, edging runner up Adelphi, which posted 37 points, and third place New Haven, which posted 76 points ... Evans Kigen paced the Bears to the team title, capturing the 8k distance in 26:23, edging runner up Matt Dispensa of Adelphi, who finished in 27:12 ... First Team All Conference winners included Kigen, Dispensa, Ryan Pezzulo of Adelphi, Frank DeStefano of NYIT, James Beaubrun of New Haven, Hill Kiprop-Kerras of NYIT, and Kadioan Turner of NYIT ... Pezzulo earned Rookie of the Year honors as the top newcomer, placing third in 27:23 ... The All Conference Second Team, consisting of the 8th through 14th place finishers, included Carlos Techera of Adelphi, Mike Marrone of Dowling, Mike Dorman of Adelphi, David Chiapperino of New Haven, Christopher Banton of NYIT, Patrick Leach of New Haven, and Tome Eickelberg of Adelphi ... Val Holt of NYIT earned Coach of the Year accolades ... In last week's Northeast top 10 regional rankings (10/16) Adelphi was No. 5, and New Haven was No. 7.
CW Post: C.W. Post competed at the East Coast Conference Cross Country Championships and the women finished fourth overall while the men placed sixth Sunday morning at Van Cortlandt Park. On the women's side, sophomore Kristen Sweeney crossed the finish line first for the Pioneers and placed sixth overall with final time of 21 minutes, 09.13 seconds. Sweeney was named First Team All-Conference following the meet. Freshman Allison O'Leary followed up 19th overall at 22:04.60 and was just the third freshman in the conference to cross the finish line.
New Haven: Sophomore Melissa Tempesta finished second at the ECC Championships Sunday, giving the UNH women two individual champions, one runner-up, and one bronze medalist in the last four seasons. Along with Tempesta's title in 2006, Alissa von Schmidt was the league champion as a freshman in 2004 and was third in 2005. She earned her fourth consecutive First Team All-ECC award with a fourth-place finish in this year's race. The women's team finished second, a one-spot improvement over last season's showing. On the men's side, senior James Beaubrun captured his second straight First Team All-ECC award by finishing fifth overall, and UNH put two men on the Second Team All-ECC squad. That gives the UNH men three all-conference performers for the second straight season, and they finished third in the team standings for the third year in a row.
