
Bronx, N.Y. - Sophomore Evans Kigen (El Doret, Kenya) continued
his remarkable season by winning the NCAA Division II Northeast
Regional this monring at Van Cortland Park. Kigen, who captured the
East Coast Conference (ECC) championship two weeks ago and led the
men's team to their first ever ECC championship, won the regional
with a time of 31.56. The men's team continued their impressive run
as well, placing fourth out of 19 teams, their highest finish in
the history of the program.
Kigen, the ECC Runner of the Year, earned himself a trip to the
national meet as an individual qualifier. The NCAA Division II
Championship will take place on Saturday, November 17 in Joplin,
Missouri and is being hosted by Missouri Southern State
University.
Sophomore Hillary Kiprop-Kerras (El Doret, Kenya) placed 23rd,
while sophomore Louis Tafuto (Warmick, N.Y.) placed 29th and
freshman Frank Destafano (Selden, N.Y.) finished 34th.
The women's team placed 15 in the regionals.
