University of Bridgeport Women's Volleyball Set to Host China's Zhejiang University

Bridgeport. Conn. - The University of Bridgeport women’s volleyball team is set to host their counterparts from Zhejiang University for 10 days of cultural exchange and friendly international competition.

The group of Chinese athletes, a delegation of approximately 15, will arrive in the United States on Sunday, September 15, and the two teams will play matches on Tuesday, September 17, Thursday September 19 and Tuesday, September 24 in UB’s Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium (120 Waldemere Avenue).  All three matches will begin at 7:00 p.m., and admission is free.

Zhejiang University is located in the city of Hangzhou in China’s Zhejiang Province which is on the nation’s east coast. Founded in 1897, Zhejiang University is one of China's oldest institutions of higher education.

As a team, Zhejiang finished third in the prestigious 2011-12 Chinese Collegiate Premier League, and they are no strangers to international play having hosted the University of Nebraska in previous seasons.

The University of Bridgeport volleyball team is the 2012 East Coast Conference Champions, and the Purple Knights have made four consecutive NCAA Division II East Regional Final appearances.

Two members of the Bridgeport team are natives of China in junior Ying Shen, who hails from Nanjing, and Jade Zhao, who is from Huhhot. Zhao is well acquainted with the Zhejiang team having several friends on the club.
