Rochester, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan Volleyball team returned to Legacy Retirement Home in nearby Churchville earlier this month to decorate Christmas cookies with the residents.
Members of the team brought frosting and decorations as the residents of Legacy had baked and cut-out the cookies. Both the players and residents used the time to enjoy conversation and get in the Christmas spirit.
"We love having the opportunity to return to Legacy again," said Coach Kirsten Meyers. "It's easy for the students to get caught up in the business of finals at this time of the semester. This activity really allows them to refocus on the importance of giving back to others, especially to older people who may not have family around during the holidays."
The Volleyball team has maintained a lasting relationship with the residents at Legacy for several years and has kept in touch with the retirement home even when the team is in season. Earlier this fall, the team painted pumpkins with the residents.
There are plans to return this spring to decorate Easter Eggs.
