Five Named to Daktronics All-Region Volleyball Team

West Haven, Conn. – Five East Coast Conference volleyball student-athletes have been named to the 2012 Daktronics NCAA Division II Volleyball All-East Region team.

Bridgeport, the 2012 ECC Champions, led the way with three of the five selections including First Teamer, Ying Shen. Shen is second on the Purple Knights with 387 kills and a .330 hitting percentage. Bridgeport's other representatives, sophomore outside hitter Biljana Savic and sophomore middle blocker Larissa Oliveira, were both Second Team selections.

ECC Player of the Year, Bethany Shepard of Dowling College was the other First Team representative from the conference. Shepard finished her career by leading the ECC with 583 kills and 4.48 kills per set.

NYIT's Shelby Cable rounds out the ECC student-athletes on the squad with a Second Team selection. All five players selected were also on the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Region Team announced earlier this week as well.

Sports information directors from NCAA Division II East Region schools and conferences selected the two Daktronics All-Region teams. The process concludes with All-American selections announced in December. This is the seventh year Daktronics has sponsored the NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball All-Region and All-American teams.

The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The team is voted on by the NCAA Division II members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA).
