Dowling Takes Over Top Spot in NCAA Regional Poll

Indianapolis - After defeating Bridgeport 3-0 last week to take over the top spot in the East Coast Conference, the Dowling College volleyball team has jumped the Purple Knights to take over as No. 1 in the NCAA East Region Poll as well.

Dowling, which is also currently ranked No. 23 in the AVCA Division II National Poll, closed out their regular season with a 25-1 record to take home the ECC Regular Season title.

Bridgeport, who had held the top spot in the first three polls, fell to the No. 2 spot. Bridgeport currently has a 22-3 record on the season.

C.W. Post is the third ECC member in this week’s poll, coming in at No. 4 with a 20-11 record. NYIT also has a 20-11 record in the No. 7 spot to round out ECC squads on the poll.

All four schools on the poll will vie for the ECC Championship this weekend at NYIT. The winner takes home the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. Teams selected to the 2010 NCAA Division II Women’s Volleyball Championship will be determined Sunday, November 14. The selections announcement will be streamed online via at 10 p.m. Eastern time.
