Bridgeport Sweeps UMass Lowell To Move Into NCAA Regional Semifinals
Oakdale, NY-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team moved into the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament East Regional semifinal for the second consecutive year with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-22) win over the UMass Lowell River Hawks in Oakdale, NY on Thursday afternoon. With the win, UB is now 32-6 on the season, and the Purple Knights move on to face the University of New Haven Chargers in an all Connecticut semifinals at 5:00 p.m. on Friday evening. UNH defeated Pace, 3-0, to reach the regional semifinals. UMass Lowell finishes its season with a 22-10 record. The Bridgeport/UML match-up was a tilt between the conference champions of the East Coast Conference (UB) and the Northeast 10 Conference (UMass Lowell).
Agatha Baliddawa (Grad., Jinja, Uganda) led the Bridgeport offense with 16 kills and hit an impressive .542 in the match with those 16 kills on 24 attacks with only three errors. Baliddawa also had three blocks for the Purple Knights (one solo).
Junior Terry Masava (Nairobi, Kenya) added nine kills for UB, and junior Ivana Kovacevic-Jurasin (Belgrade, Serbia) chipped in eight kills for the winners.
Senior Juliana Moraes (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) had a fine all-around match with six kills and 10 digs.
As a team, Bridgeport hit .321 for the match with 48 kills 106 attacks with 14 errors.
Setter Milica Micovic (Senior, Belgrade, Serbia) directed the Purple Knights offense with 40 assists and added five kills and seven digs.
Senior libero JJ Edwards (Georgetown, Ontario, Canada) led the UB defense with a match-high 18 digs. As a team, Bridgeport registered 60 digs on the day.

KLEKOTKA AND CREW ADVANCE TO EAST REGIONAL SEMI-FINAL
Oakdale, NY-The Golden Lions defeated Georgian
Court University 3-0 in the first round of the NCAA East
Patrycja Klekotka led the Golden Lions with 11 kills Dowling started off slow in the first set as Georgian Court worked a 4-4 tie, 7-7, 8-8 and 9-9 before the Golden Lions went on an 11-0 run which saw Morgan Mutranowski (Muskego, WI) toe the service line 13 straight times and Kelly Scott (Moscow, ID) led the charge with 2 kills. The rally included 7 errors by the Lions which ended in a 25-14 victory for Dowling. Bethany Shepard (Lakewood, CO), Patrycja Klekotka (Siedlce, Poland) and Kelly Scott all contributed with 3 kills for the Golden Lions. The Lions were led by Senior outside hitter Janelle Murdock with 1 kill and 2 digs in the set.
In the second set Georgian Court hopped out to a slim lead but the Golden Lions offense stabilized and tied the set at 5. The set remained tight until a kill by Bethany Shepard expanded the led to 12-9. After a kill by senior Patrycja Klekotka Georgian Court called a timeout staring at a 15-11 deficit. Dowling went on to close out the sent 25-19 with a kill from Bethany Shepard. The Golden Lions were led in the set by Klekotka with 5 kills.
The third and final set of the match concluded with a tight 25-23 victory for the #1 seeded Golden Lions. Dowling showed their postseason mental toughness as they came back from being down 16-12. With the set knotted at 23 apiece back to back kills by Maja Potpara and Bethany Shepard ended the contest 25-23. Maja Potpara led the attack with 3 kills in the set and Brandi Arsenault led the Lions with 2 kills.
Patrycja Klekotka led the Golden Lions with 11 kills on the night. Bethany Shepard kept the Lions offense in check with 12 digs to lead all players. Georgian Court was led offensively by Janelle Murdock with 7 kills. Dowling had a .275 hitting percentage as a team.
The Golden Lions will next take on Bentley University tomorrow at 7:30 PM.
