Players of the Week

Melanie Burgos, Dowling (So., A, Coram, N.Y. / Longwood HS) - Notched seven points (4g, 3a) in a 15-9 road upset of No. 10 Philadelphia.  She also scooped up a game high eight ground balls.

Goalkeepers of the Week

Rachael Goldstein, Dowling (Fr., Ridge, N.Y. / Longwood HS) - Posted a career high 17 saves (12 second half) to preserve the victory against No. 10 Philadelphia.
 

Caitlin Fitzpatrick, Adelphi (Jr., Port Washington, N.Y. / Paul D. Schriber) - Notched seven saves in a 7-4 victory over No. 1 C.W. Post to capture the ECC league title.  She helped keep the Pioneers scoreless in the first half, making three saves.

Rookies of the Week

Michelle Ceraso, Adelphi (Fr., A, Massapequa, N.Y. / Kellenberg    ) - Collected three goals against top-ranked C.W. Post as the Panthers captured the ECC title.

Kelly Cefalu, Dowling (Fr., M, East Islip, N.Y. / East Islip HS) - Notched four goals and added an assist in a 15-9 victory over No. 10 Philadelphia. She also picked up eight ground balls and added four draw controls.

ECC Notebook

ECC: In the most recent IWLCA Division II national poll (4/22), C.W. Post remained the nation's top ranked team, while Adelphi was No. 3 and New Haven was No. 8 ... Adelphi and C.W. Post have been selected to the NCAA Division II final four (four-team tournament) and will face off May 15th in Houston, Tex. The winner advances to face the winner of Limestone and West Chester. The championship will be broadcast live on CBS College Sports Network (formerly CSTV) at 1:00 p.m. May 17th.

Adelphi: Adelphi knocked off top seed C.W. Post, 7-4, to claim the ECC Regular season title.  Freshman Michelle Ceraso tallied three goals in the win, as the Panthers held the Pioneers scoreless in the first 30 minutes of play. The undefeated Panthers (16-0) were selected to participate in the NCAA Championships May 15-17 in Houston, Texas.  

C.W. Post: C.W. Post received its record seventh bid into the NCAA tournament and will face conference foe Adelphi on May 15 in Houston, Texas.  The Pioneers posted a 1-1 conference record last week.  The Pioneers were defeated for the first time in 22 games to No. 3 Adelphi by a 7-4 score.  Senior midfielder Elaine Williams notched two goals for C.W. Post.  Against Philadelphia, the Pioneers rebounded with a 21-7 win over the Rams.  Junior attacker Jaclyn Napoli recorded six goals while junior midfielder Katie Hogan notched three goals and three assists. 

Dowling: Dowling upset #10 Philadelphia on Wednesday 15-9, the win marked the first against a USILA top 10 opponent for the Golden Lions.  Melanie Burgos, Kelly Cefalu and Cassandra Cronin each had 4 goals in the win, with Burgos added 4 assists.  On defense, Dowling was led by goalkeeper Racheal Goldstein who made 17 saves, 12 coming in the second half and Cronin who caused 5 turnovers.  The Golden Lions began the week tops in the nation in ground balls per game averaging 35 a game.  On Saturday, Dowling will host the finals of the ECAC Championship and play the winner of the Molloy / Georgian Court semi-final contest held Friday night.  Game time for championship game set for 11am.

Molloy: In their lone game of the week, the Lady Lions dropped to Adelphi on April 29.  Kristie Sosnowski scored Molloy's only two goals of the game.  The Lady Lions will play in the 2008 ECAC Tournament.  Molloy will host Georgian Court on Friday, May 9 at 3:00 PM.  The winner will advance to the ECAC Championship game against Dowling College on Saturday, May 10 at Dowling.  The game will begin at 11:00 AM.
