Player of the Week
Kristina Wargo, Molloy (So., M, Hicksville, N.Y. / Hicksville HS) - Scored 13 goals and handed out eight assists in a 3-0 week. Notched six points (5g, 1a) in a 19-9 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas. Tied her career high for points with nine (4g, 5a) including 100th career point against Bentley. Finished with six points (4g, 2a) against Assumption.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Lauren Scipione, C.W. Post (Sr., E. Meadow, N.Y. / E. Meadow) - Made 22 saves and posted a 3-0 record last week, allowing 13 goals for a 4.71 goals against average.
Rookies of the Week
Michelle Ceraso, Adelphi (Fr., A, Massapequa, N.Y. / Kellenberg) - Recorded nine goals and four assists on a 3-0 week. Had three goals in each contest and added two assists a piece against Merrimack and Regis.
Ashley Ferrandiz, New Haven (Fr., M, West Sayville, N.Y. / Sayville H.S.) - Notched 15 points (10g, 5a) in a 3-0 week. Had five points against Bryant (2g, 3a), six points at Merrimack (5g, 1a) and four at Saint Anselm (3g, 1a) including the overtime game winner.
ECC Notebook
ECC: In the most recent IWLCA Division II national poll (4/14), C.W. Post remained the nation's top ranked team, while Adelphi remained No. 3 and New Haven climbed one spot to No. 8.
C.W. Post: The Pioneers posted a 3-0 week, with victories over Dowling, Franklin Pierce, and Saint Michael's College. They remain undefeated and ranked number one in the nation with a 14-0 record. Mallory Poole led the scoring with 11 goals on the week. Katie Hogan and Jenna Miller each scored nine goals on the week, with Miller adding thirteen assists and Hogan adding 11. Lauren Scipione continued her outstanding performance in the net, making 22 saves and allowing only 13 goals for the Pioneers, who return home for a three-game home stand, beginning with Northeast-10 opponent Stonehill College on Apr. 27 at 1 p.m. on Hickox Field.
Adelphi: The #3 ranked Adelphi University Panthers continued to dominate its opponents in a 3-0 week. The Panthers outscored their opponents 64-20 on the week, but are especially strong in the first half. They outscore their opponents 40-7 in the first 30 minutes of play. Junior Rachel Ray led the Panthers this week with eight goals and 14 assists. Freshman Michelle Ceraso collected nine goals and four assists on the week. Sophomore Caitlin Fitzpatrick made 22 stops to improve her record to 12-0. The Panthers return to action this Wednesday at Dowling College.
New Haven: The UNH women's lacrosse team (13-2,
3-2 ECC) finished up a 3-0 week with wins over Bryant University,
Merrimack College and Saint Anselm College. Brigid Brady led
the Chargers with 18 points (17g, 1a). Both Ashley Ferrandiz
(15 points) and Kristine Lambracht (11 points) tallied ten goals in
the three victories. UNH overcame a deficit of seven goals in
the come from behind 20-19 win over Merrimack on Friday. In
Sunday's match UNH came back from an early four goal deficit to
defeat Saint Anselm 18-17 in overtime on a goal from freshman
Ashley Ferrandiz in the extra frame. Goalkeeper Shannon
Greenwood made 27 saves for the week and picked up three
victories.
Dowling: Dowling had a 1-1 week, losing to #1 C.W.
Post on Wednesday 15-7 and rebounding for a 21-9 victory over Regis
(CO) on Saturday. The Golden Lions were led by Cassandra
Cronin who had a 10 point week (7G, 3A) and Kelly Cefalu who scored
7 goals on the week. In the latest NCAA D II Statistical
rankings, The Golden Lions as a team currently rank 2nd in the
nation in ground balls per game (31.44) and Cronin and Vanessa
Moreira are ranked 3rd in caused turnovers per game (2.33).
Dowling returns to action hosting #3 Adelphi Wednesday at 4:00 as
part of senior day and a double header with the men's
program. They travel to Chestnut Hill Saturday in
non-conference action.
Molloy: The Lady Lions went 3-0 on the week with a
19-9 victory over STAC on April 16, a 15-7 win over Bentley on
April 18 and a 19-5 victory over Assumption on April 20.
Kristina Wargo scored her 100th career point during the 15-7 win
over Bentley. In addition, she tied her career high record
for points in a game with nine (4 goals, 5 assists) in the win over
Assumption. Rebecca LaFlare had 10 goals and an assist, while
Kristie Sosnowski added nine goals and six assists.
